“Ariana, you mustn’t let him down. Don’t listen to outsiders trying to trick you into divorcing him and splitting the property.”
Ethan picked up her cue and began slandering me. “Ariana, you’ve always been the best wife. The person I love most is you and our daughter.”
“Who’s been spreading lies in your ear? Tell me and I’ll beat him up. No one can destroy our marriage.”
He looked furious, as if catching a cheating spouse, which was utterly disgusting.
“Ethan, your little performance is making me want to vomit!” I set my daughter down and turned to leave.
Selena grabbed my arm, refusing to let go. “Ariana, you can’t ruin Ethan’s reputation like this.”
“Even if we divorce, he’s still Emily’s father. Doesn’t your conscience bother you? As a woman, I truly look down on you.”
I stepped on the stroller with my foot for leverage, then lunged forward and yanked a fistful of Selena’s hair. “I’m divorcing Ethan, what business is it of yours?”
“If you care so much about him, why did you abandon him to go abroad with someone else back then?”
Seeing his so-called goddess being attacked, Ethan rushed forward to help her hit me.
My daughter screamed in fright, her cries piercing the air. I couldn’t fight them both off, so in desperation, I sank my teeth into Ethan’s neck, biting down hard and refusing to release no matter how much they struck me.
My wild, determined expression finally made them panic and speak more gently.
“Ariana, let’s talk this out. If you kill my son, you’ll go to jail too. What about the child?”
“Stop biting. You’re a mother, think of the child.”
Just as I was about to release him, Selena drove a fruit knife into my chest.
“Murder! Murder!”
“Call the police!”
Clutching my chest, I gasped for breath, my eyes instinctively seeking out my daughter. My family was thousands of miles away and everyone here belonged to the Blackthorn Family.
“Ethan, I’m sorry! I was trying to protect you and accidentally hurt Ariana. What should I do?”
“Will the police arrest me? Oh, no, I’m so scared.” Selena buried herself in Ethan’s arms.
Everyone rushed to comfort her, telling her not to be afraid, while my daughter sobbed and shouted, “Mom, don’t die!”
With trembling hands, I began to save myself, dialing 120.
If I relied on them, I’d be dead for sure.
When the paramedics arrived, I clung to my daughter’s hand and begged them to take us both with them.
When I regained consciousness, the doctor told me that if the knife had been just two centimeters deeper, even a god wouldn’t have saved me. He asked if I wanted to report it to the police.
“No need to report it. It was an accident while the family was playing.”
“Ariana, rest well. Emily will take care of you.” Ethan ignored my objections and dismissed the doctor without a second thought.
A bitter smile curved my lips. “If you want me not to call the police, sign the divorce agreement and the guarantee first.
“The one for me and my daughter, you must give it to us.”
Ethan slammed the cup down on the table. “At this point, you’re still talking about divorce?
“I had the doctor give you the best medicine and put you in the best ward. All of this is what I’ve earned. Without me, the hospital wouldn’t even admit you.
“Be realistic. You’re my wife. I’ll always love you. Stop being stubborn. Let’s just live a good life together.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Love me? That’s why you let your goddess stab me with a knife?
“If that’s love, then let me stab each of you with a knife.”
Ethan’s face twisted with anger. “It was you who bit me and she saved me.
“Those things between us are long gone. Don’t be so suspicious…”
I took a deep breath. “You don’t need to explain. I have one demand now, divorce.
“Otherwise, I’ll sue Selena. You choose.”
