Veronica noticed that their food delivery was always brought by the same attractive young man. Every time she received the order from him, his fingertips would briefly touch hers. Whether it was intentional or not, she couldn't discern. Intrigued, she decided to let her husband, Kyren, take over the task. However, she found that Kyren took twice as long as usual to return with the food. One day, while passing near a nearby alley, Veronica heard soft, panting breaths that seemed strangely familiar. Before she could investigate further, she heard her husband's deep, tender voice call out, "Baby."
“Kyren, why do you take so long to pick up the food?” Veronica asked as she moved toward the door, her curiosity evident. She was met with an empty hallway and the front door left ajar. She headed toward the elevator, but Kyren was nowhere to be seen. Just as she thought about going back, she heard faint sounds coming from the stairwell nearby.
“Oh, I can't hold on any longer,” came a young, soft male voice. Veronica immediately recognized the implication and chuckled inwardly at the boldness of today's younger generation. She and Kyren were often exhausted from their demanding work schedules, and such intimate activities had become more routine, sometimes even overlooked entirely.
Suddenly, she caught a whiff of something burning. Oh no, her dinner rolls! Forgetting any curiosity about others' affairs, she rushed back to the kitchen. Before long, Kyren returned.
“Kyren, where did you pick up the food? Why did it take so long? I couldn’t find you,” Veronica asked, noticing Kyren's flushed face and slightly breathless demeanor with concern.
A flicker of worry crossed Kyren's eyes, but Veronica was too busy fetching a tissue to wipe his sweat away to notice.
“Ah, the delivery guy couldn’t find our apartment, so I had to go down to the building entrance,” Kyren explained.
“Has the delivery guy changed? Wasn't it always that handsome young fellow?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, really? Have you been picking it up all this time? I must not have noticed. It's probably someone new,” Kyren replied, casually.
The conversation didn’t last long. The key thing was that they got their food, and there was no real impact on their dinner.
Later that evening, as Kyren and Veronica lay in bed, she couldn’t shake the memory of the soft voice from the stairwell. Feeling daring, she cozied up to Kyren, letting her hand glide under the sheets to rest on his thigh. Her hand began to cramp a little before Kyren finally responded, his breathing deliberately deepened.
“Babe, I'm really wiped out today. Let me recharge, and I promise I’ll make you plead for mercy next time,” Kyren said, apologetically kissing her forehead before turning over to sleep.
In the dark, Veronica felt a wave of disappointment wash over her. The yearning in her heart left her restless and slightly empty. With her eyes closed, a cloud of frustration curled in her mind, and she could only rely on her imagination to soothe the flutter in her chest. As she hovered between sleep and consciousness, a silhouette suddenly flickered in her thoughts.
