Chapter 1 of My Alpha Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress

The bond broke at ten past eight on a winter evening, in front of two hundred wolves.

I felt it the moment Dante raised his glass for the toast. The mate bond pulsed—not toward me, sitting three feet away in the Luna's chair—but across the hall, toward the Gamma's table. Toward Kendra Evans, whose hand rested on the curve of her belly like a claim.

I knew that pulse. I had felt it forty-seven times in the past year. The specific flavor of his warmth when it was meant for her. Tonight it tasted like iron in my mouth.

My wolf stirred for the first time in months. Not in comfort. In recognition.

I pressed my thumb against the inside of my wrist and counted to three. Then I stood.

The hall went quiet in confused, staggered increments. Dante's glass paused halfway to his lips. Two hundred pairs of eyes turned toward me—Ironveil wolves, visiting Alphas, their Lunas in silk gowns, warriors lining the walls. The chandeliers above us threw cold light across white tablecloths and untouched plates.

"I have something to say," I said. My voice did not need to be raised. Wolf ears are sharp. "Before this toast continues."

Dante set his glass down slowly. His jaw tightened. That stillness—I knew it. It was the stillness of a man locating his last reservoir of dominance.

"Emilia." His tone carried a warning. "Sit down."

I did not sit.

"Alpha Dante Knight," I said, and I used his full title because pack law required precision, "I am invoking my right as Luna to address a violation of our mating vow. Publicly. Before these witnesses."

The silence deepened. Someone's fork clinked against a plate and went still.

Dante's eyes narrowed. "This is not the time—"

"You have been conducting an affair with Kendra Evans for the past eighteen months," I said. My voice was steady. I had practiced this. "I can cite specific dates. March seventh. April twenty-third. June fourteenth. August ninth. I felt every instance through our mate bond. You transmitted your intimacy with her directly into my body, and you know I felt it, because the bond does not lie."

Every wolf nose in the hall turned toward Kendra. I watched it happen in real time—the subtle flare of nostrils, the shift of attention. Her scent was layered with his. It had been for months. They all knew. They had simply chosen not to see.

Kendra's face went white. Dante's hand curled into a fist on the table.

"You are carrying his child," I continued, looking at her now. "And your scent confirms it. Every wolf in this room can smell him on you."

Dante stood. His Alpha aura rolled outward, a pressure designed to make me flinch. "Enough."

I met his eyes. "Reject me, then. If I am wrong. If this bond is sacred to you. Speak the vow, Alpha. Right now. Or acknowledge what you have done."

His jaw worked. The hall held its breath.

He could not acknowledge it. To do so would be to admit mating-law violation in front of allied packs. But he could not let me stand here, either, naming his shame in front of everyone.

So he chose the third option.

"I, Dante Knight, Alpha of the Ironveil Pack," he said, and his voice carried the full weight of his authority, "reject you, Emilia West, as my mate and Luna."

The mark on my neck went ice-white.

I felt it like a door slamming shut inside my chest. The bond—the living conduit that had transmitted six years of his betrayal—went cold, then empty, then silent. My wolf screamed. Not in my head. Through the pack mind-link. A howl that every Ironveil member heard simultaneously, a sound that rattled bones and made the chandeliers tremble.

My knees buckled. I caught the edge of the table. For one exposed moment I was just a woman in agony, the severed bond tearing through me like a blade I could not remove.

Then Isabelle Bradley rose from her seat.

"A barren Luna," she said, loud enough for the hall to hear. "She gave you one daughter in six years and called it enough. This is what happens when you mate beneath your bloodline, Dante. You should have—"

She did not finish.

Because my wolf was not whimpering into silence. My wolf was burning.

I felt it in my spine first—a heat that cracked upward like lightning. My bones shifted. Not the familiar shift I had known since I was sixteen. Something else. Something that had been dormant, compressed, strangled beneath the weight of a bond that should have been sacred.

Golden light fractured across my skin.

Dante stepped back. His Alpha aura hit me mid-shift—a command designed to force submission, to press me to the floor in front of everyone.

"Surrender your title," he said, and his voice carried the Alpha tone that no wolf could resist. "Forfeit your quarters. Accept Omega rank. Now."

My body began to buckle.

And then something inside me said no.

The shift completed in a single, violent convulsion. I felt my human form tear away and something vast take its place. My wolf—but not my wolf. Larger. Silver-white fur. Eyes that burned gold. An aura that exploded outward like a shockwave.

Every wolf in the hall dropped to their knees.

Dante. Kendra. Isabelle. The visiting Alphas. The warriors. Two hundred wolves, necks bared, forced down by a power none of them had seen coming.

I stood over my former mate in my shifted form and felt no satisfaction. Only clarity.

I spoke through the mind-link. Every Ironveil wolf heard me.

*Kendra Evans carries Alpha Dante Knight's child. This is biological proof of mating-law violation. I invoke the Luna Accord. Full territorial reparation. Uncontested custody of my daughter. And the right to leave this pack with my bloodline intact.*

Dante's wolf whimpered. I heard it—a sound I had never heard from him before.

"I take it back," he said, his voice breaking. "Emilia, I take it back—"

*You cannot.* I let the words settle. *Spoken before witnesses, a rejection cannot be undone. Pack law is absolute.*

I shifted back to human form. My skin was bare but I did not feel exposed. I felt awake.

I walked through the hall of kneeling wolves. No one moved. No one could.

I retrieved Reya from the nursery—she was asleep, her small hand curled around Buster's golden fur. I wrapped her in a blanket and carried her toward the door.

Dante tried to stand. His legs would not hold him.

I did not look back.

The winter night was cold and clean. Buster pressed against my side. Reya's breath was warm against my neck.

Behind me, the Ironveil Pack house blazed with light. Ahead, the forest stretched dark and endless.

I walked into it without hesitation.
