Chapter 1 of My Alpha, Come Back to Me

My world shattered the day my father, the beloved former Alpha, died under mysterious circumstances.

As Luna, I was supposed to be strong, but grief consumed me, especially when my husband, Keegan, was absent during my darkest hour.

Instead, I discovered a social media post showing him with a stunning woman named Fenrisa, seemingly enjoying a romantic getaway while I mourned.

Heartbroken, I noticed strange details surrounding my father's death and Keegan's behavior—whispers of something sinister lurking beneath the surface.

As I investigated, unsettling truths began to emerge, all pointing back to Fenrisa.

When I confronted Keegan with undeniable proof, he realized he had been manipulated. But could our relationship survive the betrayal and regret, or had too much already been lost?

***

My father, Alpha Rhys, was on his deathbed, barely hanging on, and nobody could figure out what was wrong with him. I couldn’t stop pacing as I tried calling my husband, Alpha Keegan.

Keegan had gone to meet with the Bloodmoon Claws, a neighboring pack he was sure would be key to securing a new alliance. He had promised me the meeting would be quick, and he would be back soon. That was a week ago, and I was still waiting.

His phone had been dead for days, and every single person who went with him had already returned. My anxiety was through the roof as my father’s breathing got worse. We had healers and doctors trying everything, but nothing was helping.

I picked up my phone to distract myself from the mess when something on my feed hit me like a truck. A post with thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. The caption read, [A well-deserved break with Alpha Keegan].

My heart dropped. Fenrisa, one of the most well-known figures in the werewolf world, had uploaded a bunch of photos of her and Keegan, grinning in front of some beautiful scenery that had to be inside Bloodmoon Claws’ territory.

I just stood there, staring at the screen, feeling like the floor had been pulled out from under me. My chest felt like it was being crushed, and my head was starting to spin.

Then, as if on cue, the doctor called, telling me the words I was dreading—my father was gone.

I ran inside and saw him lying there, lifeless. My legs gave out, and I collapsed, barely making it to a chair as people helped me sit down.

“Sabine, take care of the pack. Don’t let the Wicked Growlers take over,” he had told me before he lost consciousness.

As Luna of the Evermane Pride, I knew the weight of that responsibility. My father had trained me for this moment ever since I was a kid.

My mother, the Luna before me, had been killed in a rogue attack when I was young. I didn’t remember much about her, but my father made sure I never forgot that it was the Wicked Growlers who were responsible.

For days before his death, I had already started to smell it. It was faint, but there—a sickly sweet scent that clung to him like dying flowers. His usual scent was disappearing, replaced by something cold, metallic. Death hadn’t arrived yet, but I could smell it coming closer.

I wasn’t just any Luna—I had a rare ability when it came to scents.

Most werewolves have a sharp sense of smell, but mine was on another level. I could pick up on things from miles away, and nothing ever slipped past me. This was why our pack had stayed strong for years—I could sense anything coming long before it got close.

But this “gift” was a double-edged sword. Sure, it helped the pack. I could find herbs for healers and even detect sickness early on, but it came at a price.

My sensitivity made it hard for me to be around strong smells, especially in new places or around people I didn’t know. It became overwhelming, so I mostly kept to myself, staying in the pack, often in my room, while Keegan handled the outside world.

And that, honestly, was part of the problem. Keegan was always away, dealing with other packs, and over time, we drifted apart.

Even now, when I needed him the most, he’d promised to be here. But reality proved, yet again, he wasn’t.

Fenrisa Black, a stunning woman from another pack, first came into our lives a few years ago during a ceremony at our pack.

With her fiery red hair and piercing green eyes, she turned heads wherever she went, and Keegan wasn’t immune to her charm. There was something about her that seemed to draw him in from the start.

I still remembered that night like it was yesterday. It was three years ago, and I stood beside Keegan as I always did, but the second Fenrisa stepped into the hall, I could feel a shift in the air. Her scent hit me—sweet, almost overpowering, but with something fake about it. It immediately put me on edge.

But Keegan? It was like she had him in a trance.

His eyes were locked on her as she moved gracefully through the room, her beauty practically glowing in the candlelight.

I saw it—the way he couldn’t look away, how his jaw clenched just slightly, and I could pick up the faint scent of desire coming off him. It was a mix of confusion and attraction, and I knew something had changed.

Fenrisa was smooth, playing the role of the perfect guest. She thanked Keegan for his hospitality, every word dripping with charm, and I could see how Keegan started to see her differently—less as an ally and more as... something else.

In the months before my father passed, he had wanted to spend more time with me and Keegan. He treated Keegan like a son, training us together and passing down his wisdom.

But Keegan had started pulling away. He claimed it was because of his duties as Alpha, saying he was too busy with outside business and pack visits. I knew something was off.

One night, I finally confronted him about it. “Keegan,” I said, “I get that you have responsibilities, but my father is dying. He wants to be with us.”

Keegan’s response was cold and distant, not at all like the man I married. “Sabine, I respect your father, but you can’t expect me to sit around with him just because he’s sick. His life is coming to an end, but mine isn’t. I still have so much ahead of me, and I can’t waste my potential sitting here waiting for him to die.”
