Moon bound Hearts: The Wolf and the Crown Prince

CHAPTER 20 - A PRINCE'S VOW

(Narrative only - safe for teen readers; no immersive or first-person romantic roleplay)

The silver doorway closed behind Lyria and Aiden with a sound like distant bells fading underwater. For a moment, darkness pressed around them-cool, absolute, weightless.

Then light stirred.

Tiny motes drifted upward, glowing soft as fireflies. They illuminated a long stone corridor carved with ancient runes. The air smelled of moonlight and old magic, as if nothing here had changed for hundreds of years.

Aiden stepped ahead instinctively, one hand on his sword, the other steadying Lyria.

"Is this the path to the Moon Temple?" he asked quietly.

The crater wolf-now more transparent, as though fading between realms-nodded.

"Yes. The Temple lies at the end of this passage. But what awaits you... will test more than strength."

Lyria felt her flame resonate with the runes along the walls. Each symbol pulsed faintly, responding to her presence like hearts beating in unison.

"The Temple knows we're coming," she whispered.

"It has waited for you," the wolf agreed.

Aiden glanced at Lyria, his expression troubled but resolute. "Let's keep moving."

They walked deeper.

The Corridor of Echoes

As they advanced, whispers curled through the air-not voices of any living being, but memories, threads of past footsteps woven into the stone.

Lyria heard fragments:

"The Wolf shall rise..."

"...Crowned Heart joined..."

"...balance or ruin..."

Aiden paused, listening too. "These sound like parts of the prophecy."

The crater wolf's tone grew somber.

"The Moon Temple has witnessed every bearer of silver flame. Most failed their trials. Few lived to understand them."

Lyria shivered.

Aiden stepped closer-not touching, but near enough to anchor her. "You just completed the First Binding. You succeeded where others couldn't."

Lyria inhaled deeply, steadying herself. "I have to keep succeeding. For all of us."

The Threshold of the Temple

The tunnel opened suddenly into a vast cavern. Crystalline pillars rose from the ground, each glowing with soft silver light. At the far end stood two giant doors of moonstone, covered in ancient carvings of wolves and crowns.

Lyria stepped toward them-and the runes ignited in bright silver.

Aiden shielded his eyes as the doors swung open.

Inside lay the Moon Temple.

A place older than kingdoms.

Older than written prophecy.

Older, perhaps, than wolves themselves.

A circular chamber stretched before them, its floor etched with a sprawling sigil the size of a small pond. Moonlight poured in from an unseen source, illuminating floating platforms of stone around the edges.

The Oracle's voice whispered from far behind them, though the Oracle was nowhere to be seen.

"Within lies the truth. But truth comes with a price."

Lyria and Aiden exchanged a glance-steady, nervous, resolute.

Then they stepped inside.

The Trial of Revelation

As soon as Lyria's foot crossed the threshold, the Temple reacted.

Silver flames erupted in a perfect ring around the central sigil. The floating platforms clicked into formation, forming a circle above the ground.

The crater wolf leapt onto one with fluid grace.

"This is the Trial of Revelation," it said.

"The Temple will reveal the full prophecy. But revelation is not gentle."

A rumble shook the ground.

The sigil on the floor brightened-

and suddenly, visions burst upward like pillars of light.

Lyria staggered, eyes widening.

She saw:

A wolf running across a burning kingdom.

A prince kneeling with a broken crown.

A shadowy figure controlling the throne-Seraphina.

A city under siege by magic gone wrong.

A silver flame splitting the sky.

Two hearts intertwined in blinding light.

A world either healing... or collapsing.

Aiden clenched his fists. "This is what she wants. Power over everything."

The crater wolf growled.

"Seraphina believes she is the rightful heir to the prophecy. She thinks the throne and the flame belong to her. But the Temple has always known the truth."

The visions shifted-now showing Lyria.

Standing at the heart of a storm.

Silver fire flowing from her hands like rivers.

Wolves bowing.

Humans watching.

The realm reshaped by her decisions.

Lyria's breath caught. "Me? I'm supposed to-"

The crater wolf interrupted.

"Lead. Not rule."

"Unite. Not conquer."

Aiden stepped forward, his voice steady.

"And me? What is my part?"

The Temple shifted again.

A new vision formed-

Aiden standing beside Lyria, their magic intertwined.

He held a blade of moonlight, shielded by her flame.

Together, they stood on the steps of a rebuilt kingdom.

Lyria watched silently, throat tightening.

Aiden exhaled slowly. "So... we stand together in all possible futures?"

The crater wolf shook its head.

"Not all. Only the ones where the world survives."

The Temple dimmed.

The visions vanished-

leaving silence thick as air before a storm.

Lyria sank to her knees, shaken. "The prophecy is real. All of it."

Aiden approached and knelt beside her, expression soft but firm.

"You're not facing it alone. I vowed that the moment this started."

His hand hovered-hesitant-then rested lightly on her shoulder.

Support.

Not pressure.

"I don't care what the visions say," he said. "Prophecy or not, I'm with you."

Lyria closed her eyes briefly, absorbing the steadiness of his presence.

The flame inside her hummed-a steady, clarified note instead of frantic sparks.

"Aiden... thank you," she whispered.

He offered a gentle smile. "Always."

A Warning from the Temple

The crater wolf suddenly stiffened.

A low growl vibrated through the chamber.

"Something is wrong."

A crack formed across the moonstone floor.

Silver light sputtered.

A bitter cold swept into the room.

Lyria stood quickly. "She's found us."

Aiden's expression sharpened. "Seraphina."

The crater wolf's fur bristled.

"No... worse."

The far wall of the Temple shook-

and a monstrous shadow rose behind it.

A wolf-shaped figure, but twisted-

massive, corrupted, snarling with emerald fire.

A creature born from Seraphina's dark magic.

A Shadowfang.

The crater wolf stepped between Lyria and the beast.

"You must leave. Now."

Lyria shook her head. "We're not abandoning you!"

Aiden drew his sword. "We fight together."

But the crater wolf growled, louder, fiercer.

"GO! This is only the first. Seraphina has breached the Temple's wards."

"If she reaches the core, she will tear the prophecy apart."

The Shadowfang let out a bone-deep howl.

Aiden grabbed Lyria's arm, urgency sharp in his voice.

"We need the core before she does. Move!"

Lyria nodded, fire sparking beneath her skin.

The crater wolf leapt toward the Shadow fang with a roar.

"Run, Silver Wolf! Run, Crowned Heart! Fulfill your fate!"

Lyria and Aiden sprinted down the Temple's inner passage-

their path lit only by the thinning silver glow of the prophecy.

And behind them, the first battle of the Moon Temple began.
