Married for Profit

She didn't. She just turned around and left in anger.

As I expected, my family still had value and she was reluctant to give up this part of her profit.

But she wasn't going to let me off easy.

She resorted to even more extreme means, once again provoking and challenging my bottom line.

Ethan posted on his social media again.

[With approval from my boss, I've been promoted to a full-time employee.]

Prior to this, Ethan was just an intern at the Davis Construction. He took a signed contract for permanent employment at Timmy's small restaurant.

Sure, she knew how to challenge me, to hurt me, so she took Ethan there again.

I didn't call her this time -- once enough.

The first time I called her, I still had a glimmer of hope, but not this time.

Just then I got a call from Timmy.

"Henry, I don't plan on calling you, but on second thought, I need to tell you I'm leaving."

"Leaving? Uncle Tim, what do you mean by leaving?"

"Tired and bored, I want to go and see around the world. I'll have someone else take over the restaurant."

"Uncle Tim, I know, I'll help you get grievances you've suffered."

"No, no, Henry, it's not the point. I'm really tired and bored. Don't let me affect your relationship with your wife."

I hung up the phone and headed straight to the restaurant – to only see the assistant.

Seeing me come in, he got up in a hurry and said, "Mr. Becker, Ms. Davis said my proposal was good and wanted me to be a full-time employee of the company. I didn't do this on purpose. I didn't have nothing to do with Ms. Davis."

I didn't bother to answer him. "Where's Serena?"

"That old man wasn't happy with me. He didn't want to cook for me and left. So Ms. Davis wanted to cook for me herself and I couldn't stop her."

He was so humble, but an undisguised provocation was heard in his tone.

Serena's cooking for him, haha ... she's not even acting anymore.

I was just about to go find Serena -- when the sound of high heels clacking against the floor came closer.

"Mr. Becker, I'm sorry. I know I was wrong. Please don't hit me."

He suddenly shouted, then picked a random hard thing up and smashed it on his head, bleeding.

Drama!

"Henry, enough!" Serena glared and roared at me, carrying the dishes over. "Now apologize to Ethan!"

"Ethan, how kind!"

I walked over and picked up the fallen wine bottle -- not broken yet.

I hit him hard on the head and said, "You can scream now."

"Henry, don't you think you've gone too far?" She glared at me.

"Mr. Becker, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I was wrong." He bent over, acting like an innocent boy, trying to gain Serena's sympathy.

"You're not wrong." She went over to support the shaky assistant. "I'll take you to the hospital first, don't worry, this matter won't just be left unresolved."

I sat alone in the small restaurant and dialed my father's number. "Dad, I'm a bit stuck."

No word, no reaction came out of my father's mouth, so I continued. "Over the past two years, as the Davis' business was getting stronger, the relationship between me and Serena was getting more distant. Two days ago, on my birthday, she spent it with a subordinate who shares my birthday instead of coming home to be with me."

"And today, I made a scene and she cooked for that subordinate herself."

"I feel the wings of the Davis are getting stronger."

"Tell me, I'll handle it." The only words my father said.

I felt better and more excited now. "Cut the wings of the Davis and crush them to death!"

The phone ended, and in no time, Serena called and asked me to go to the County Clerk office.

Half an hour later, the two of us met at the entrance of the County Clerk office.

Serena had changed her outfit and put on a proud face, like a swan, and Ethan, wrapped in a gauze, put his eyes on me full of provocation.

He believed he had won in such an emotional competition.

But could someone like Serena let her emotions get the better of her?

Serena looked at me with a condescending look and said, "Henry, I don't think you understand the situation right now. The Beckers is on the verge of collapse. I'm giving you one chance. Kneel down and apologize to Ethan now and we can keep this marriage."
