Chapter 1 of Life Before Marriage: Calculation of Property

To test my fiancé's loyalty, I bought a small apartment two months before our wedding. It cost me a whopping 140,000 dollars on a down payment, with an additional 500 dollars as monthly installments. When he found out, he completely lost his temper.

"You spent all your money on this?! And now I have to pay back the loan. Who's going to support us after we're married?" he yelled in anger. He continued, "My sister is right. You buy the department because you want get it as your premarital property."

Bridger's whole family pressured me to sell the apartment or register it as my sister-in-mother's property. If not, they threatened to cancel the wedding.

I stood on the balcony of the fancy villa and sneered, thinking to myself, "Bridger, you deserve this."

Two months before our wedding, my mom asked me to buy a small department to test Bridger's commitment. I didn't think it was necessary. We had been dating for years, and I believed I could trust him.

But my mom said that when it comes to money, people's true colors tend to show. She also added, "If he doesn't say anything negative about your newly-bought department, I'll buy you both a luxurious villa as your wedding gift."

I was tempted and curious about Bridger's loyalty. So, I spent a fortune buying a small department, paying 500 dollars every month for 15 years.

But as soon as I signed the contract at the sales office, Bridger stormed in with his family. He glared at the contract in my hand and asked, "Natalie, did you really buy a department?"

I nodded and replied, "Yes, I bought a small apartment. And in the future, you..."

Before I could finish my sentence, Bridger's mother, Cora, slapped me across the face. The pain was excruciating, and tears welled up in my eyes. I instinctively covered my face.

I wanted to explain that the small department could be reserved for his mother to enjoy her peaceful life after we got married. It had two bedrooms and a living room, perfect for Cora. But she slapped me without reason.

I couldn't accept it. No one had dared to lay a hand on me since I was a child, not even my own mother.

In a fit of anger, I slapped Bridger back. I wouldn’t reason with Cora, but I couldn't just let her slap me without consequences.

It seemed only fair for Bridger to face the consequences of his mother's actions. Frustrated, he angrily questioned me, "Why did you slap me?"

I tilted my head, looking directly at Cora, and retorted, "What gives her the right to lay a hand on me?"

Before Bridger could say anything, Cora was about to strike again. But there was no way I would let her slap me again. I'm not one to back down easily.

In a moment of madness, I grabbed her wrist tightly and shook it with force. She stumbled and her waist collided with the nearby table. I watched as Cora coiled in pain.

Jenna, my sister-in-law, immediately rushed to Cora's defense and yell at me, "Natalie, how dare you lay a finger on my mother!"

I scoffed and replied, "She hit me first. Why can’t I defend myself?"

Cora struggled to stand up, shooting me an angry glare. "Natalie, you spent a fortune on this department without our permission. What's wrong with me slapping you?"

How dare she! Cora had the nerve to chastise me even before we were married. I couldn't help but fire back, "How dare you talk to me like that? If we do get married, will you torture me from day one?"

She was clearly shifting the blame onto me, insinuating that she had the right to slap me, while I had to endure it. But I'm a submissive lamb. Why should I endure it?

Jenna chimed in, supporting her mother's side. "My mother is absolutely right. You and my brother are about to get married, and suddenly you go and spend all your money on this department. We know exactly what you're up to. Don't take us as fools."

I didn’t what got they mad. I bought the department by my department, and I would pay the housing loan by myself. Why they were angry?
