Kiss Their Schemes Goodbye

“Exactly! Just look at how devastated your mother-in-law is! Are you trying to push her into an early grave too?”

“We all heard it—selling that house could save his life! We’re broke, but you have the money and you refuse to help? What kind of monster does that?”

A relative leaned close to my mother-in-law and whispered something in her ear.

The next second, she shot up from the ground and kicked me hard.

“You wretched woman! You already sold the house and lied to me! Where’s the money? Half of that house belonged to my son! What gives you the right to keep it all for yourself?”

Everyone believed her words without question and the insults came even harsher.

Through it all, I remained perfectly calm.

“I transferred it to my mom. My cousin is getting married and needs a house, so I lent it to him. Either way, I don’t have the money right now.”

She trembled with rage, pointing a shaking finger at my face.

“She’s lying! Only an idiot would lend all that money to an outsider! Hold her down! The money must be on her!”

My arms and legs were pinned beneath my in-laws' feet. Without hesitation, my mother-in-law started searching me. Her hands found my bank card.

She shoved it into the cashier’s hands.

But after two or three swipes, the staff shook their head.

“There’s no balance.”

In the blink of an eye, the crowd erupted into curses.

Dark camera lenses zoomed in on my face, capturing every second of the chaos.

Willow rushed over, her eyes widening at the scene before her. Her voice shook as she crouched in front of me, trying to reason with me.

“Luke won’t make it! Didn’t you say you spent the last three days selling the house? You don’t even get along with your cousin, so there’s no way you lent him the money! Where is it, Nova? Are you really going to stand by and let Luke die?”

Before I could get up, a nurse ran over in a panic.

“I have bad news, The doctors just discovered that Luke also has late-stage liver cancer! The original surgery plan is no longer viable!”

Willow’s expression didn’t change. So the nurse emphasized, “This time, it’s real.”
