In Bed with My Fiancé's Enemy

Brielle Sterling crammed her few remaining personal items into her leather briefcase: a framed photo of her parents before the crash, and a shot of her and Adrian smiling in front of the old Sterling Holdings building.

It still felt like a total betrayal that she was the one being cast out of the corporate group. Unfair, but completely expected given how the board operated.

She couldn't comprehend why Theodore Kingswell was forcing her transfer straight into Blackridge Global Holdings.

Rumors across the financial district said every executive at Blackridge was a cutthroat corporate shark, trained to gut rival firms without mercy.

At Kingswell Group, female executives were constantly sidelined, kept away from real power and big-ticket mergers.

Brielle was small, thin, and drained. Chairman Damian Blackridge would take one look at her balance sheet and liquidate her career on the spot.

He had a reputation for having zero tolerance for weakness or underperformance.

She caught her reflection in the darkened window of her office. Skin and bones. Ever since Kieran Ashcroft dumped her in front of the entire board, she had barely been able to swallow solid food, no matter how hard Adrian tried to persuade her.

She was already fragile, but now there was even less of her left to fight back.

She worried about what her own pride would push her to do. There were a dozen ways to ruin a career in this city, and if she wasn't careful, she'd crash her own life completely just to stop the pain.

A sharp, impatient knock on the heavy executive door told her time was up. The single hour granted by the board had vanished.

The door swung inward, and Adrian Sterling stepped into the room, his eyes fixed on the plush carpet.

"Victor Hawkes is downstairs," Adrian said, his voice flat. "The Chairman forbade me from walking you down to the executive bay."

Brielle swallowed hard, nodding slowly.

"Just keep your head down and sign whatever papers they put in front of you," Adrian whispered, stepping forward to wrap her in a tight, desperate embrace.

This was Theodore Kingswell's ultimate power move. Adrian wasn't even permitted to see her off at the corporate boundary line. The board simply wanted her scrubbed from the ledgers and forgotten.

Outside the private lobby, Victor Hawkes stood waiting beside the heavy glass doors, checking his encrypted phone.

"Move it, Sterling," Victor growled, not even looking up.

A sleek black executive SUV sat idling in the private subterranean loading bay. Victor unlocked the passenger side, and Brielle pulled the heavy door open, climbing into the leather interior.

He didn't utter another word during the entire drive. The vehicle hit the highway, speeding toward the Corporate Boundary Zone that separated Kingswell’s sector from the Blackridge financial territory.

At a quiet, private intersection right on the boundary line, Victor slammed the SUV into park.

"Get out," Victor commanded coldly. "Your new transport will be here in two minutes."

Brielle stepped onto the curb, her heels clicking against the cold pavement as Victor hit the accelerator, leaving a cloud of exhaust behind as he sped back toward Kingswell territory.

She stood alone at the edge of the corporate district, holding her briefcase tight against her chest.

She considered, just for a second, catching a cab back to the Sterling family residence. She could pretend the transfer transport never showed up.

Before the thought could fully take root, a massive blacked-out executive van pulled up to the curb, its heavily tinted windows hiding everything inside.

The side door slid open with a low electronic hum.

A broad-shouldered man wearing a sharp dark suit step down to the pavement, his dark eyes assessing her in a split second.

"Brielle Sterling?" he asked smoothly.

"Yes," Brielle said, forcing her chin up.

"I'm Kieran Ashcroft's replacement contact, Chief Victor Hawkes' counterpart from Blackridge Security—call me Alaric Vaughn," the man said, offering a tight, efficient professional smile. "You're the final transfer on today's roster. Get in."

Brielle stepped inside the luxurious leather-trimmed cabin.

Five other junior executives and analysts were seated inside—three men and two women, all dressed in high-end tailored suits, looking impossibly polished and confident.

They belonged in the Blackridge culture. They had the killer instinct. Brielle, in her simple navy suit and hollow eyes, looked like a liability.

She found an empty leather captain's chair near the back corner and slid into it, staring out at the passing skyscrapers of the financial district.

"Hey, I'm Selina Whitlock's former associate, Vanessa Ellington," the woman in the row ahead of her said, turning around with a sharp, stunning smile. "You look like you need a coffee."

"I'm fine, thank you," Brielle mumbled, turning her gaze back toward the tinted window.

She couldn't afford to make friends. Not here. Everyone in this vehicle was built for corporate warfare, and she was stepping into an environment designed to crush her.

Alaric Vaughn walked down the center aisle, holding out a sealed bottle of sparkling water toward her.

"You should hydrate, Miss Sterling. Chairman Blackridge expects his executives alert for the orientation meeting."

"I'm not thirsty," Brielle replied quietly.

Her appetite had vanished three days ago, the exact moment Kieran humiliated her in the main boardroom.

It had started with so much promise. Three years ago, Kieran Ashcroft, Preston Calloway, and Rowan Mercer had been sent to handle the European expansion under Ares Global Capital.

They returned as the top financial strategists in the industry, handpicked to secure Kingswell Group's dominance.

Brielle had been working eighty-hour weeks in the firm's portfolio division, waiting for Kieran’s return. They were engaged. They were supposed to run the firm together.

The day of their return, the entire corporate headquarters had been decorated for a welcome banquet.

Brielle had walked into the grand atrium, catching the distinct scent of expensive cologne and cigar smoke.

When she saw Kieran standing near the glass elevators, her heart had hammered against her ribs. She had stepped forward, expecting him to pull her into his arms.

Instead, Kieran had stopped dead, looking at her with absolute disgust.

"You actually thought I'd keep you as my primary partner, Brielle?" Kieran had sneered, his voice carrying across the marble lobby so every executive could hear. "Look at you. You're a liability to the Sterling name, and your family's equity is worthless."

Brielle had frozen in place, the room spinning around her. "Kieran, what are you talking about?"

"I, Kieran Ashcroft, hereby terminate our personal engagement and dissolve our joint executive contract," Kieran announced, his voice ringing out clearly.

The entire lobby went dead silent.

"Acknowledge it, Brielle. Now," he demanded.

"I acknowledge the termination," Brielle whispered, tears burning her eyes as her chest felt like it was caving in.

Kieran hadn't even hesitated. He turned on his heel, walked straight up to Selina Whitlock, and slid his arm around her waist, kissing her right in front of the entire corporate staff.

"Selina actually brings controlling assets to the table," Kieran laughed softly against Selina's lips while the crowd broke into applause, stepping right over Brielle's ruined reputation.

In the back of the transport, Alaric Vaughn studied Brielle's pale face.

"Did you sign the voluntary transfer waiver for this reassignment, Miss Sterling?" Alaric asked, his voice low and calculating.

Brielle knew the corporate regulations. Forced executive transfers without cause violated regional employment laws and could cost Kingswell Group millions in regulatory fines.

She looked Alaric dead in the eye and shook her head. "No. Theodore Kingswell signed it on my behalf under a debt-settlement clause."

Alaric's eyes narrowed instantly. He pulled out his encrypted phone, typed out a rapid message, and sent it straight to the top floor of Blackridge Global Holdings.

The transport pulled through the heavily guarded gates of the Blackridge Financial District and came to a smooth stop beneath the massive glass tower.

"Step out, Miss Sterling," Alaric said, sliding the door open. "Chairman Blackridge is waiting for you in the penthouse boardroom."

Brielle stepped onto the polished granite plaza, her heart pounding violently against her ribs. She took a deep breath, clutching her briefcase, knowing that stepping through those golden revolving doors meant entering a world where one wrong step would destroy her completely.
