When I opened my eyes again, a man was sitting beside the hospital bed. I opened my mouth, but the pain in my throat made me frown.
Adrian heard the sound and turned around. The cold look in his eyes became gentle. He handed me a cup of water and said seriously, “What is Geff even doing? If it had not been snowing heavily in Larkridge these days, you would not have survived.”
My eyelashes trembled as the memory of the wedding dress shop rushed back.
“I did not want to tell you this, but you must know… you fell from such a high place. It was already a miracle to survive. And because your emotions were not stable, the baby… could not be saved.”
The dull look in my eyes finally changed.
After a while, I weakly forced a smile. “Maybe it is better that the child did not come into this world.”
After all, if the little one knew what kind of man his father was, he would probably hate his mother.
Out of the corner of my eye, I suddenly saw the bandages on Adrian’s arm, and my gaze shifted.
“You are hurt?”
Before Adrian could answer, his assistant spoke first. “Mr. Donovan rushed here as soon as he got off the plane. He happened to see you being pushed down, and he got hurt while trying to save you…”
Adrian gave the man a cold look, telling him to stop.
I looked at him with mixed feelings. So many words were stuck in my throat that I did not know how to say them.
He seemed to understand and gave a light smile. “It is fine. Just a small injury. Do not feel guilty. Everything has been arranged. In three days, everything will disappear.”
Through Adrian, I looked at my reflection in the mirror in the distance.
After a long moment, I nodded slowly. “Thank you.”
When I returned home from the hospital, I went straight to the bedroom to pack my things.
But inside, I saw Elise in a bathrobe. She froze for a moment when she saw me, then smiled brightly and turned around. “Oh, Tyara, your luck is really good as always. Guess what happened these past few days?”
Looking at the woman who caused my child’s death, my heart started beating wildly, beyond my control.
Elise raised her hand and showed the huge diamond ring on her ring finger.
I recognized it at once. It was the first ring Geff gave me when he proposed. It was our promise ring. I kept it in a box, afraid to scratch it, never willing to wear it.
“I told Geff I was going to get married. That day was meant to be our final goodbye, but I never expected my words to provoke him… to make him…” Elise glanced casually at the big bed behind her.
That was where he and I had been together on our wedding night.
Her voice continued, “He punished me for three days and three nights. No matter how much I begged, it did not stop. So, Tyara, it is not that I refuse to give Geff back to you. It is that he cannot live without me.”
I looked at her proud face, my stomach twisting in disgust.
Suddenly, Elise seemed to remember something and placed her hand on her lower belly. “Oh anyway, do you know why Geff immediately said the baby in my belly is his? Because… it really is his.”
The woman walked closer, looking straight into my eyes. “I told him to be careful not to hurt our baby, but he was still rough and out of control. He said he would make me pregnant again, so I would be tied to him forever.”
Elise smiled. “Maybe right now, I am already carrying twins.”
Her words made me shake with anger. I hit her hard, sending her to the floor. “Elise, before I divorce Geff, you will always be a shameless third woman!”
Looking down at her, I bent closer, my eyes burning with rage. “A mistress should know her place.”
The next second, the door was suddenly pushed open.
A furious voice froze me in place. “Tyara, what are you doing?”
