My mind was racing, and just as his fist came down, I shoved him away with all my strength, my voice urgent:
"This video is fake! I never hurt her!"
"Then bring your wife here and confront me in person!"
Michael Carter's fury twisted into a sarcastic smile as he grabbed me by the arm, lifting me off the ground and slamming me back down.
I felt like my body had shattered, my organs twisted in pain, and I curled up from the agony.
He picked up his phone and shoved it into my face:
"Fake? When has surveillance footage ever been faked?"
I stared at the screen, desperately searching for a flaw.
Suddenly, my eyes lit up.
I pointed to the distorted timestamp on the screen and said,
"This is the proof! Maybe the video isn't fake, but it's been maliciously edited."
"I haven’t even seen your wife these past few days! Don't you believe me? We're supposed to be brothers!"
I pleaded with him, trying to get him to calm down.
After a tense silence, Michael Carter finally cooled down.
He studied the video more carefully and soon realized it did indeed look fabricated.
Realizing his mistake, he hesitated before speaking:
"You and my wife have no grudge. Why would she frame you?"
"Why would she go as far as to sacrifice a child for this?"
Why would she frame me? How should I know?
Since the previous life, these two had relentlessly tormented me. I’d like to ask them why, too!
Clutching my injured stomach, I slowly straightened up and said,
"Why don’t you ask her yourself why she did this?"
At my cold words, Michael Carter knew he was in the wrong. He stormed to the balcony to make a call.
Before he could finish, the doorbell rang.
I stumbled to the door, my face covered in bruises, only to find several police officers standing outside.
They flashed their badges and said sternly,
"Mr. Summers, we've received a call accusing you of attempted murder. The evidence is solid. Please come with us."
My mind went blank.
If Michael Carter hadn't slammed me on the back, I might have been frozen in place.
He frowned and asked,
"What call? Ethan Summers has been with me this whole time, he couldn’t have committed a crime."
"Officers, are you sure you have the right person?"
The lead officer paused when he saw Michael Carter, then replied,
"It was your wife who reported the crime."
"And we already have evidence, which is why we're here."
As the words fell, Michael Carter turned to me, disbelief written all over his face:
"Ethan Summers, I thought you were my good brother! You’re actually lying to me?"
He grabbed my collar, leaning close to my ear and muttered,
"If you're the killer, even if it costs me my life, I'll send you to hell!"
His voice was soft, but icy like a venomous snake.
I suddenly felt a chill, unable to say a word.
With the police present, he didn’t strike me. He just followed me to the police station.
As soon as we arrived, I saw Samantha Lee sitting beside me.
Her face was pale, her eyes sunken.
There was a faint smell of blood around her, and she was wearing a hospital gown, looking completely exhausted.
Seeing me, she almost screamed,
"It’s him! He’s the one who made me miscarry!"
Michael Carter’s eyes filled with pain as he saw this.
I furrowed my brow, trying to keep my composure:
"Officers, that surveillance footage is fake! I’m being framed!"
Before I could finish, Samantha Lee rushed forward and slapped me hard.
