I didn’t hesitate.I switched my phone to recording mode,hid it inside a nearby plant and quickly left the villa.
By the time Noah came out to check,I was already gone.
Two hours later,I returned to the villa and took back my phone.In the recording,after making sure no one was around,Noah went back to the living room.He and Eine finished their romantic candlelight dinner like they were the happiest people in the world.
Then Eine pretended to look sad,her voice soft and fake.“Noah,I heard you never once cooked for Shannon in all these years.Why don’t we leave these leftovers for her?Let her taste your cooking too.”
Noah acted like he didn’t notice the insult toward me and agreed as if was sweet.
Just then,I suddenly heard his voice behind me.“Shannon?What are you doing in the living room?”
My whole body froze.At that exact moment,the recording ended.
Keeping my expression calm,I closed my phone and turned around casually.“Nothing.I was just wondering why the villa looks different.”
He paused for a second,then smiled naturally.“It’s to celebrate your discharge from the hospital today.”
Before I could react,he took my hand and pulled me toward the table where the leftovers were placed.Even though he tried to make them look nice,anyone could see they were already eaten by someone else.
Acting like nothing was wrong,he gently touched my stomach.
“Shannon,I’m sorry.I was on a business trip and missed the doctor’s call.I’m sorry you had to go through everything alone.The baby is gone,but it’s okay.I know your heart is broken.”
“But as long as you’re safe,that’s all I care about.”
He kissed my stomach tenderly,pretending to be full of love and I froze.Looking at his fake gentle expression,I wanted to rip open his chest and see what kind of heart he had.
How could he act so loving?
There was no pain in his eyes,only coldness.My throat tightened so much that I couldn’t speak.
He saw the tears in my eyes and thought I was grieving for the baby.
A flicker of mixed emotions passed through his gaze.Then,when my phone made a notification sound,he placed a knife and fork into my hands.
He said softly,“Shannon,you just came back from the hospital.You need nutrition.I made this myself.Try it.”
Without giving me time to refuse,he pushed me firmly into a chair.
Looking at the table full of leftovers,my stomach twisted.Did he think I was so foolish now that he didn’t even need to act anymore?Or did he believe that my love made me blind,that I would swallow any lie he said?
I really wanted to cut off every place he touched me.
When I still didn’t move,he scooped up some food with a spoon and tried to feed me.
I leaned away slightly and looked straight into his eyes.“Noah,this looks like someone already ate it.Next time,cook again when your skills improve.”
At my words,his hand froze in the air.For a moment,he stared at me,surprised that I didn’t trust him like before.
But soon,he turned away and spoke,as if giving an order,“Shannon,I know you’re still upset about what happened at the hospital.If you don’t want to eat,fine.I bought a new estate for you.Sign this and I’ll take you there tomorrow.”
He then placed a contract in front of me.
