His Rejected Omega The Bond He Destroyed

All because I had uncovered a single blurred image of a face in profile, he had orchestrated a rogue wolf ambush to silence me.

Shock and heartbreak crashed over me like a tidal wave, pulling me under. My inner wolf keened, a thin, wounded sound that echoed through every hollow space inside my chest.

The man I had loved for so many years. The man I believed capable of giving his passion only to pack affairs, to territory and strategy and dominance. He had done all of this for another woman.

I didn't want to believe it. But the evidence left me no choice.

I thought I would never learn who she truly was, that her face would remain a shadow forever.

Then, one week later, my communicator rang with a call from the Territorial Enforcement Hall.

"Is this the bonded mate of Alpha Dominic Ashford? We've received a formal complaint. Someone has filed charges accusing Alpha Ashford of visiting an unsanctioned mating den. We need you to come in."

My mind went completely blank.

Unsanctioned mating den.

Dominic Ashford.

Those words could not possibly belong in the same sentence.

But I went anyway.

The moment I walked through the doors of the Enforcement Hall, my gaze landed on a young she-wolf in an elegant fitted dress. She couldn't have been much older than twenty. She sat with her legs crossed, radiating petulant entitlement, her voice sharp and carrying across the stone-floored chamber. "Why haven't you summoned him yet? I'm filing a formal accusation. Don't you understand plain speech? Or is it that he's the Supreme Alpha and you're too afraid to touch him?"

The enforcement officers around her exchanged uncomfortable glances, trying again and again to explain procedure.

She only grew more impatient. "If you won't act, I'll take my complaint to another Enforcement Hall."

The words had barely left her mouth when the screech of tires cut through the silence outside.

He was here.

He entered in a tailored black suit, his expression carved from winter stone, and the force of his Alpha aura swept through the hall like a pressure wave. Every wolf in the room went still. Shoulders dropped. Eyes lowered. The air itself seemed to thicken and cool, pressing down on my chest until I could barely breathe.

His gaze found me first. His brow furrowed instantly. "What are you doing here."

My throat constricted. "The enforcement officers contacted me. I'm your bonded mate."

His voice dropped colder. "This doesn't concern you. Go home."

He walked past me without another glance, as though I were nothing more than empty air, my scent beneath his notice. Not even a flicker of recognition from his wolf.

He crossed the hall to where the girl sat.

What happened next plunged me into an abyss of ice so deep I thought I might never surface.

He knelt.

That man who towered above every wolf in the known world, who commanded packs and territories with a single word, lowered himself to the ground before her. He crouched at her feet and tilted his face up to look at her, and when he spoke, his voice was so tender it didn't sound like him at all. Something soft and warm and impossibly gentle, a tone I had never once heard directed at me in five years of our mating bond.

"Baby, who upset you?"

Her eyes reddened. Her lower lip trembled with the righteous indignation of someone who had never once been denied. "You did. You didn't reply to my message within three seconds. I was so angry I came here to file charges against you for visiting an unsanctioned mating den."

A collective intake of breath rippled through the hall. Officers stared. Even the seasoned enforcers looked stunned.

But Dominic only let out a low, quiet laugh. He reached up and cupped her face with one hand, his thumb brushing her cheekbone with devastating tenderness.

"That's my fault. Since you want to press charges, I'll turn myself in. A few days in the holding cells. Would that make you feel better?"

He said it as though he meant it. He actually extended his wrists toward the nearest enforcement officer.

No one in the room dared move.

His Beta Liaison rushed forward, voice tight with barely contained panic. "Miss Holloway, Alpha Ashford had an incident this morning. His arm was injured during a border patrol skirmish. He was at the Healer's Den having his wounds treated. His communicator's charge died. That's the only reason he didn't respond."

Serena's expression changed instantly. Alarm flooded her features. She seized his hand and pushed back his sleeve.

Bandages wrapped his forearm beneath the dark fabric.

Her eyes filled with tears. "You were hurt and you didn't even tell me?"

He simply wiped her tears away with his thumb. "I failed to keep my promise to you. That makes it my fault."

She cried harder, throwing herself into his arms, pressing her face against his chest. "Why are you so good to me?"

He held her close. His voice dropped to something low and raw and unbearably intimate. "Because I love you."

In that moment, my world shattered completely.

My wolf went silent. Not howling, not keening. Silent. As though something fundamental inside me had simply stopped existing. The mating mark on my neck, the one that had never once warmed with his affection, throbbed with a cold, hollow ache that radiated down through my bones.

Then she pouted and demanded he give her a piggyback ride. Right there. In the Enforcement Hall.

The Beta Liaison's face drained of color.

But Dominic didn't refuse.

He looked at her steadily. "It has to be here?"

She nodded, chin lifted.

He said, "Alright."

And then the most powerful Alpha in the known world, the wolf whose bloodline traced to the Original Five, whose name made entire packs lower their eyes in submission, got down on his hands and knees on the stone floor of the Territorial Enforcement Hall.

"Come on."

She laughed and climbed onto his back.

And he crawled. He carried her across the floor on all fours, willingly, without a single flash of irritation. Only indulgence. Only devotion. The kind of surrender that had nothing to do with weakness and everything to do with a love so consuming it obliterated pride.

The entire hall was deathly quiet. Not a whisper. Not a breath.

I couldn't hold it in any longer. I clamped my hand over my mouth so hard my fingers went white, and the tears poured down my face in hot, uncontrollable streams. A strangled sound escaped my throat, something between a gasp and a sob that I bit down on until I tasted blood. My wolf lay curled inside me, utterly still, as though she had simply given up.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed it.

That man, cold to the marrow of his bones, carved from ice and authority and indifference, was capable of loving someone like this. Of kneeling. Of crawling. Of making himself small and soft and willing.

And that someone had never been me. Not once. Not ever.

On the drive back, memories flooded through me like water breaking through a dam.

The first time I saw him was at a pack gathering, a formal alliance banquet between the Silvercrest and Ashford bloodlines. He stood apart from the crowd, untouchable, his aura a wall of frost that kept every wolf at a careful distance. Cool. Restrained. Like a god descended from the moon itself, too far above the world to be touched by it.

I fell for him in a single heartbeat. My wolf had stirred, lifted her head, and pressed forward with an aching, desperate recognition that I mistook for fate.

When our families proposed the arranged mating to unite the Silvercrest and Ashford bloodlines, I agreed almost before the words had finished leaving my father's mouth.

My closest friend tried to warn me. She said he was a machine without a heart, that I would never find happiness with him.

But I didn't listen.

I believed that if I loved him enough, if I was patient enough and devoted enough, I could melt through that wall of ice. That my warmth would eventually reach his wolf. That one day he would turn to me and finally see me.

On our mating night, after the ceremony, after the marks were given and the bond sealed under the full moon, he told me the truth.

He didn't love me.
