His Artistic Muse

My husband, Julian, was one of New York City's top conceptual artists.

To find inspiration for his new series, "Vanishing Intimacy," he invited his new muse, Chloe, into our Brooklyn home.

He swore it was purely professional and proposed a "performative separation."

But when he hit a creative wall, he confessed that every touch they shared was reigniting his fading inspiration.

"Elena, I promise, as soon as this series is finished, I'll let her go. My heart will always belong to you and Leo."

In the end, I didn't see Chloe leave. Instead, Julian served me with divorce papers.

He said this, too, was "part of his performance art."

I didn't shed a tear or raise my voice. I simply signed the divorce papers and walked out with our son in my arms.

Later, when I reappeared with a brand new identity, Julian grabbed my wrist, his eyes bloodshot, and demanded:

"Elena, how dare you become my rival's muse!"

Headlines screamed from every major news outlet.

【Julian Vance Disbands Model Team, A Return to Family Life?】

【The Genius Artist's Final Haven: A Perfect Union of Inspiration and Love.】

I scoffed at the headlines.

He’d cleared out his studio, but not for his family.

He'd already moved his new muse—the one who supposedly offered him "ultimate inspiration"—into our home, treating her like a deity.

Just as I turned off my tablet, Julian stepped into the room, trailing the cloying scent of Chloe's perfume.

He wrapped his arms around me from behind, his warm breath ghosting against my neck.

"Elena, I've hit a wall with my latest work."

"Chloe is the only cure. I need to connect with her on a purely spiritual and physical level, a union unburdened by the institution of marriage."

I pulled away from his touch, my voice flat.

"I've already signed the divorce papers. Leo and I will be moving out tomorrow."

He stiffened, a flicker of annoyance in his voice.

"Wait a little longer. As soon as the 'Vanishing Intimacy' series is complete, we'll remarry. We can even put your name on the series."

"Elena, don't make this difficult. This is for my art. Can't you think about my career for once?"

In Julian's eyes, being the wife of a great artist like him was a blessing.

I was expected to understand his every action and make unconditional sacrifices for his art.

He couldn't understand why I insisted on leaving.

And I couldn't understand when he had become so shamelessly entitled.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and repeated, "I'm not throwing a tantrum. I'm leaving."

Julian seemed to find my stubbornness amusing.

Just as he was about to speak, a soft knock came from the door.

A faint, pained voice drifted from the other side. "Julian, my migraine is acting up. I think I pushed myself too hard on the concepts today. Can you come stay with me?"

He immediately turned to open the door, gathering her into his arms and soothing her in a low voice.

"Where does it hurt? I'll have my assistant fetch a doctor."

"Chloe, easy. Nothing is more important than your well-being—and my inspiration."

My heart turned to ash as I watched them.

He once said my eyes held a universe of stars, his eternal wellspring of inspiration.

Now, all of that was a joke.

Turns out, his wellsprings of inspiration were a dime a dozen.
