Her Perfect Lie: The Empire Heiress

Chapter 195 – The Vault of Truth

James Barnett stood outside the nondescript building in the industrial district. It was an old municipal archive, long abandoned but recently reactivated under government supervision. According to Silas, this vault contained the only unaltered, legally binding records: birth certificates, adoption documents, and notarized proofs that would definitively reveal which twin-James or Dominic's counterpart-was the rightful heir to the Barnett legacy.

"Are you sure this is legit?" Mara whispered, scanning the perimeter.

"Silas verified it," James replied. His voice was tense, but steady. "This is the one thing that can break Dominic's hold and confirm who I truly am."

Georgia, standing beside them, clenched her fists.

"And if it's not you?" she asked, fear glinting in her eyes. "If it's the other twin?"

James shook his head.

"Then I have to face that reality. But at least I'll know the truth. No more lies. No more manipulation."

The security guards at the vault's entrance gave them a wary glance, then motioned them inside. The air smelled of old paper and rusted metal. Rows of filing cabinets stretched endlessly, and the sound of their footsteps echoed ominously.

Silas led the way, carrying a small encrypted device.

"Once we access the main terminal, it will decrypt the digital archives and confirm the original documents. But Dominic-or David-may have left traps. Be prepared."

James' heart pounded. After months of deception, betrayal, and manipulation, the final proof lay ahead.

Inside the central chamber, a large vault door loomed. It bore no handle, only a keypad and biometric scanner. Silas stepped forward.

"This is the heart of the archive," he explained. "Everything here is immutable. Birth certificates, adoption files, notarized declarations... if this isn't authentic, nothing is."

James placed his hand on the scanner. His palm print registered immediately, and the vault door groaned open. Inside, rows of drawers and cabinets awaited, but one stood out: Drawer 47 – The Barnett Lineage.

Silas inserted the flash drive, linking it to the main terminal. Files began decrypting, revealing decades of meticulously maintained legal documents.

Georgia leaned over, squinting at the screen.

"Every adoption record, every birth certificate, every notarized signature... it's all here. And it's unaltered."

James scrolled through the files. Then he froze. A single document bore the official government seal:

"Certificate of Birth – James Barnett – Verified Legal Identity – Twin: Dominic Reyes (Alternate Identity)"

His breath caught.

"It's me," he whispered.

"Confirmed," Silas said. "Legally, socially, financially-you are the rightful heir. Dominic... your brother... is an imposter in every sense that matters to the law."

But the relief was brief.

"So all of Dominic's corporate moves, his manipulations... they're illegal," Mara said. "He can be exposed. But he'll know we have the proof. He'll come for it-and you."

James nodded grimly.

"Then we act fast. This isn't just about identity-it's about survival."

As James, Georgia, and Silas prepared to leave with the verified documents, alarms blared through the vault.

"They know we're here!" Mara shouted.

From the shadows of the terminal room, a familiar voice echoed:

"Did you really think I'd let you uncover the truth without a fight?"

Dominic Reyes stepped out, flanked by armed operatives, a smug, predatory grin on his face.

"You have the certificate," he said, voice cold. "But do you have the power to survive what comes next?"

James clutched the verified documents tightly.

"We'll see who survives," he said, jaw clenched.

The operatives advanced, guns drawn, and the vault became a maze of tension, shadows, and imminent violence.

Georgia's heart raced.

"We have the proof, but do we have the strength to get out alive?"

A single misstep could destroy everything they had fought for.

The vault doors sealed automatically behind Dominic's men, trapping James, Georgia, and Silas inside.

"You can't escape this," Dominic said, voice echoing off the metal walls.

"The truth is yours... but the consequences are mine."

James realized: the legal confirmation of his identity was just the beginning. The real battle-for survival, for justice, for the legacy of the Barnett name-was only now about to erupt.

The vault of truth had been opened, but escaping it alive would be a fight against time, deception, and a twin who had already mastered the psychological edge.
