Her Perfect Lie: The Empire Heiress

Chapter 150 – A Shadow Follows

Georgia sat on the edge of her bed, laptop open, reviewing encrypted files from David Luther's second identity. Every detail was a thread in a dangerous web-financial records, travel logs, communications with unknown operatives-but one truth became terrifyingly clear: someone was always watching.

For weeks, she had sensed it: shadows moving past the frosted window of her apartment, footsteps in the hallway that disappeared when she turned her head. Tonight, the unease was sharper, prickling her skin with the certainty that the watchers had grown bolder.

Her phone vibrated-a notification from her security system: Motion detected in the hallway.

Georgia froze. She strained her ears. Nothing. Just the familiar hum of the city outside.

Then, a soft click-a lock. Someone was trying her door.

Georgia's heart raced as she grabbed the closest object-a heavy lamp-and crept toward the bedroom door. Through the peephole, she saw a figure, dressed in black, moving with practiced stealth.

Her mind raced: Who could it be? One of David Luther's intelligence contacts? A rogue operative from Dominic Reyes' network? Or someone entirely new, with unknown motives?

The intruder attempted to pick the lock. Georgia's breath caught. This is no longer a warning.

She moved silently, using the shadows as cover. The intruder froze. Then, the handle rattled violently. Georgia's instincts screamed at her to act-quickly.

She lunged, smashing the lamp against the intruder. A sharp grunt echoed through the apartment. The attacker rolled, recovering instantly, and darted toward the living room.

In the chaos, papers flew, laptops toppled. Georgia grabbed her phone to call for help-but the line was dead.

The intruder vanished before she could secure them, leaving only subtle signs: muddy footprints, a partially open window, and a card dropped on the floor. Georgia picked it up.

It read:

"You're too close. Step back-or everything you value ends."

Her pulse thundered. Whoever this was, they weren't bluffing. Every moment she hesitated, the network-the shadow that had haunted James and Dominic-tightened its grip.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed with an unknown number. She answered cautiously:

"Miss Georgia... we've been watching. You think you're safe? Think again."

The line went dead.

Georgia realized she was no longer investigating David Luther's secrets-she had become the target. And someone-or something-was always one step ahead, lurking in the shadows.
