Chapter 124 – The Meeting With Lana
Georgia's heart thumped as she approached the secluded café in downtown Zurich. Lana Martins had agreed to meet her-an unexpected olive branch or a trap, she wasn't sure.
The streets were slick from recent rain. Steam rose from manholes, curling like specters around the glowing streetlights. Georgia scanned every passerby. Was someone following her? Or was her paranoia a side effect of years navigating David Luther's lies?
Inside the café, Lana sat at a corner table, hands wrapped around a steaming cup of coffee. Her expression was calm, almost serene, but her eyes held fire.
"Ms. Laurent," Lana said, voice polite yet icy. "I wondered when you'd find me."
Georgia's jaw tightened. "Lana. I need the truth. Why are you married to David? Why are there two lives?"
Lana smiled faintly, a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Truth? That's a slippery concept in David's world. But since you asked... we have overlapping claims. And you've been living in the middle of his lies for years."
Georgia's pulse quickened. The calm she had hoped for was already cracking.
The conversation escalated quickly. Lana wasn't just defensive-she was prepared.
"You think you know him," Lana said, leaning forward, "but I've seen the other side. The side you never even suspected exists. The real David Luther isn't yours to expose-or to claim."
Georgia's fists clenched under the table. "I need answers, not riddles. Were we both pawns? Or did he lie to both of us intentionally?"
Lana's gaze sharpened. "Both. Every word, every smile, every promise-it was a carefully constructed web. And now you've come here... threatening to unravel it. Careful, Georgia. Some webs are deadly to touch."
For a moment, silence fell. Only the clinking of cups broke the tension. Georgia realized she was sitting across from someone who had been equally deceived-and yet, fully immersed in the deception.
"So, what now?" Georgia asked, voice low.
"Now," Lana replied, "we either fight each other, or we fight the man who made us both victims."
Before Georgia could respond, a subtle vibration in her bag drew her attention. A message flashed on her encrypted phone: "They know where you are."
Lana's eyes followed hers. "It seems we're being watched. Careful where you step next... or the consequences won't just be emotional."
Georgia's mind raced. The stakes had just doubled. This was no longer about exposing David or saving herself-it was about survival, navigating a battlefield where trust was nonexistent, and enemies lurked behind familiar faces.
A shadow moved past the café window. Both women stiffened.
"I think we just found the first hint of the next move," Georgia whispered.
Lana nodded slowly, lips pressing together. "Then we move fast-or we die slow."
Outside, the rain had intensified, masking footsteps, hiding secrets, and promising that nothing about David Luther-or the lives he had manipulated-would ever be simple again.
