“Do you even understand the situation the company’s in?” he snapped. “Emily is the only way to save it. Whether you accept it or not, this is happening.”

“I’m pregnant because of you!” I cried. “For your sake, I begged my mother for help. I swallowed my pride and endured her scorn for three days and nights. And this is how you repay me?”

Ryan snatched the report off the floor and scanned it, his jaw tightening. Without hesitation, he ripped it into shreds and threw the pieces at me.

“You knew about me and Emily, didn’t you?” he accused. “This is just another one of your manipulative games! When did you become so conniving, Claire?”

I stared at him, my heart breaking with every word he spoke.

“You’re unbelievable,” I said, my voice trembling. “After everything we’ve been through—seven years of love, of building a life together—this is who you’ve become?”

But Ryan was unmoved. “If I leave Emily and the company collapses, we’ll both be ruined. Is that what you want?” he demanded.

His words were a cold, hard slap of reality. The man I had loved since college was gone, replaced by someone I no longer recognized.

For a moment, I just stood there, my tears flowing freely. Then I clenched my fists and glared at him with all the strength I had left.

“You’re a monster, Ryan,” I said, my voice steady despite the tears. “You’re willing to destroy me and our child for your own gain. Is that what love means to you?”
