Upon returning home,I walked in in a daze.
I happened to see Matthew and Jennie in the living room,looking intimate.They were smiling broadly,leaning close together and whispering,as if they were already a married couple.
I said nothing and prepared to go upstairs with a blank expression.
The next moment,Jennie grabbed my hand.
She looked at me with a pitying expression and said,“Sonya,don't be too sad.Your younger brother and son will be watching over you from heaven.”
Seeing my pale face,a trace of smugness flashed in Jennie's eyes.I immediately noticed that smug look and violently pulled her hand away.
“My husband is right beside you now,isn’t he?You and Matthew teamed up to take my child’s life,yet you dare to act so arrogant in front of me!”
I wanted to scream those words out loud.
But faster than my words were the speed at which Jennie fell backward without hesitation.
She screamed sharply,“Husband!”
The next second,Matthew rushed forward and caught her.He looked at me with hatred,as if I were his enemy.
“Sonya!How dare you lay a hand on my wife!Even if your husband and child are dead,you shouldn't have done such a thing!”
He looked at me and carefully picked up Jennie.Then he struck me hard.
“You deserve to be abandoned by them.You're such a vicious woman.And no one would truly love you.”
Hearing this,I finally couldn't help but burst into laughter.How ridiculous!My husband,standing here,naturally was assuming his brother's identity.Then using that identity to protect his sister-in-law—how disgusting!
I looked at them,my eyes filled with endless hatred and venom spilling from my mouth,“You truly disgust me!”
Before I could say more,Matthew stepped forward without hesitation and slapped me across the face.
Seeing the hatred surge back into my eyes,Matthew froze for a moment.He looked at his own hand,seemingly realizing he had gone too far.As with every argument before,he reflexively wanted to apologize to me.
But the next moment,Jennie let out a pained cry and looked at Matthew with a pitiful expression.Matthew’s attention was instantly drawn away and he didn’t care about anything else.
He frowned and gave me a complicated look.Then,under my furious gaze,he embraced Jennie and turned to leave without hesitation.
Watching their departing figures,I wiped the tears from my face and took out all the things Matthew had given me.
The butler looked at me with pity,“Madam,these are the only things Mr.Graff left for you.Are you really going to give them all to us?”
I nodded expressionlessly.
These items were the precious gifts Matthew had given me on anniversaries and birthdays over the years.Every time I saw them,a sweetness would well up in my heart.But after learning the truth,I wanted to tear everything to shreds.
