“Meghan, you’ve been in Las Vegas for seven years. You're still engaged in San Francisco and the Harrison Family is pressing you to get married. Do you think you can come back and get married?
“If you have found true love in Las Vegas, I will ask your father to talk to the Harrison Family. It does not matter if you give them some compensation, but at least cancel the engagement.”
Meghan looked haggard and lay numbly on the big bed, staring at the ceiling motionlessly.
It was dead silent.
The person on the other end of the phone sighed and was about to hang up, but Meghan, who had been silent the whole time, slowly sat up.
She ruffled her messy long hair and spoke in a hoarse voice, “No need, I will go back to San Francisco for marriage.”
Meghan’s mother's breathing stagnated and she asked back in disbelief, “Don’t you have someone you love? How, how could you agree to...."
Meghan continued the conversation calmly, “It's hard to explain right now. Please wait until I come back and I'll tell you in detail.
“In San Francisco, let the Rollins and Harrison families prepare for the wedding first. Once I finish the things at hand, I will leave for San Francisco immediately.”
After saying that, she hung up the phone. At the same time, a tear rolled down from her eye socket, soaking the white sheets.
Meghan wiped away her tears, took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
The hustle and bustle outside instantly poured into the quiet lounge.
That grand event was the twentieth birthday party that Arman Mccarthy and Sean Haynes competed to host for Shirley David.
He chartered an entire cruise ship and invited all the celebrities and dignitaries in Las Vegas, just to pave the way for Shirley.
The noisy voices and fierce drum beats tore at Meghan's eardrums. Her eyes shuttled between the elegantly dressed people and finally stopped at one place.
The elegant and noble man held a glass of champagne and hugged the girl around the waist and kissed her as if no one was around.
It was Arman and Shirley.
Meghan searched again.
Fortunately, Sean was not there. If she had seen that scene, it would have been a bloody hell.
During the lingering moment, Shirley raised her eyes and met Meghan's gaze.
She pretended to be shy and pushed Arman away, straightened her messy collar, picked up a glass of juice and trotted up the stairs holding up her skirt.
“Meghan, have you rested enough? Come, have a glass of juice. I know you are not in good health and cannot drink alcohol, so I specially made orange juice for you.”
Shirley regardlessly put the juice towards Meghan's mouth. Her plump red lips, which were slightly swollen from being sucked, opened and closed, stimulating Meghan's eyes.
Meghan turned her head away calmly.
“Take it away. I don’t want to drink it.”
Shirley timidly grabbed the hem of her skirt, her face showing panic as if she had made a mistake.
“Meghan, you would not be so cold to me before. Did I do something wrong to make you angry?”
“You think too much.” Meghan was not interested in playing along with her, so she turned around to leave impatiently, but Shirley grabbed her wrist.
Meghan struggled but failed to break free.
“If you want to pretend to be pitiful and gain sympathy, go find Arman and Sean. I won’t buy it and I'll find it disgusting.”
Meghan glanced at Shirley indifferently, brushed her hand away coldly and was about to leave.
The crisp sound of the cup breaking startled Meghan and the juice splashed on her high heels, feeling a little cool.
She turned around in panic, only to see Shirley tilted and fell on her back.
Meghan subconsciously reached out to help, but Shirley pushed her back, causing her to fall completely due to her force.
The broken glass pierced into Shirley's body and she rolled down the stairs one step at a time, her heart-wrenching screams echoing throughout the banquet hall.
The sudden change plunged the cruise ship into silence.
Arman's expression suddenly changed. He rushed over in two or three steps and hugged Shirley, who was covered in blood, losing his usual composure and self-control.
Sean, who had just walked down the red carpet, saw that scene as soon as he entered the room and his eyes were bloodshot.
Seeing Shirley covered in injuries and being hugged by his love rival Arman, Sean became even more angry.
He looked around, his eyes fell on Meghan's face and an ambiguous smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Meghan frowned and was about to speak, but unexpectedly Sean raised his hand and slapped her.
“Meghan, are you so jealous of Shirley that you have to do that at such an important moment in her life?”
The burning pain accompanied by the rapid swelling of the skin and flesh made Meghan a little dazed. At that time, she was pushed by the furious Sean.
“I’m asking you a question, are you mute? That is a crime of intentional injury, Meghan, if you want to go to jail, just tell me and I'll grant your wish!”
Arman blew on Shirley's wound with heartache, raised his head and looked at Meghan unhappily.
“Meghan, I thought you were always sensible and understanding. What you did this time was really bad. I am really disappointed in you.”
He frowned and looked at the waiter beside him and said sternly, “Let the yacht dock immediately. Has the ambulance arrived?”
Shirley timidly tugged at Arman's sleeve. “Don’t bother with that, Arman. Just let the medical staff take care of the wound.
“This cruise ship banquet today was carefully prepared for me by you and Sean. I don’t want to ruin your kindness.”
Arman was stunned for a moment.
Sean heard that, the anger on his face disappeared instantly. He squatted down and scratched Shirley's chin.
“Listen to Shirley. My personal doctor is on the yacht with me. I'll call him over now, okay?”
Shirley nodded obediently.
The assistant led the private doctor in through the crowd, holding the Best Actor Trophy that Sean had just won.
“Ms. David, that is the first Best Actor Award that Mr. Haynes has won. He specifically asked me to give the trophy to you.”
Shirley covered her mouth in pretended surprise, shook Sean's arm and said softly, “I like it so much, Sean. Thank you, you are so good to me.”
Arman picked up Shirley and looked at the private doctor.
“Come to my lounge.”
With Sean's permission, the private doctor hurriedly followed Arman.
Before Sean left, he stared at Meghan for a few seconds with a dark look, full of threats and warnings.
The guests left.
Meghan stood there in a daze, the words of Sean's assistant echoing in her ears. She suddenly recalled that many years ago, Sean had just entered the entertainment industry and was full of youthful vigor.
“Meghan, you must wait for me to bring you the Best Actor Trophy.”
At that time, the person who was regarded as a treasure by Arman and Sean was her, Meghan and only her, Meghan.
Seven years ago, she was dissatisfied with the marriage with the Harrison Family, so she changed her college entrance examination application without telling her family and went to Las Vegas to study.
Meghan is the only eldest daughter of the Rollins Family. She was raised with great care and was like a treasure. When Meghan’s parents knew about it, they just let her do whatever she wanted.
Since she loved to play, her Rollins Family would provide the money for her to play. They also bought a villa for Meghan in Las Vegas. For the past seven years, she had never lacked financial support.
The dazzling Meghan attracted Arman and Sean as soon as she entered school.
A poor boy who came from the countryside after ten years of hard study and had nothing and an unwelcome illegitimate son of the Haynes Family.
They were both stuck in the mud at first and Meghan, the lonely and proud flower, had a fatal attraction for them.
During the four years of college, wherever Meghan was, Arman and Sean were there.
Meghan was praised to the sky by the two of them.
With Meghan’s support, Arman started his own business. In just two years, he established his own business empire in Las Vegas, making everything possible.
And Sean, thanks to Meghan's painstaking planning and arrangements with all parties, not only inherited the Haynes Family and took the position of the head of the family, but also made a name for himself in the entertainment industry and the Haynes Family's fortunes rose accordingly.
But the appearance of Shirley broke the originally beautiful and harmonious situation.
Shirley was a student sponsored by Meghan and she was trained by her as her successor. Initially, she was given the position of Sean's agent as a training ground.
After all, she would have to return to San Francisco one day and her business in Las Vegas would have to be taken over by someone.
Meghan had a keen eye for talent and saw that Shirley was a promising person. In just one year, she transformed Shirley, who was less than 20 years old, from kid to adult.
Meghan could not see, Shirley took advantage of her job and secretly developed feelings for Sean.
Meghan introduced Arman to her. After a few interactions, Shirley and Arman fell in love with each other.
She did not know when it started, but the two of them showed their preference for Shirley in front of Meghan without any hesitation.
How much they cherished Meghan in the past, they liked Shirley more then.
Arman had always been frugal, but he was willing to lavishly spend for Shirley and organize such a grand cruise dinner.
Sean was arrogant and unruly, but he would get red in the ears just because of a word from Shirley and compromise for her unconditionally.
The unconditional favoritism in the past did touch Meghan's heart and made her fall.
If she did not want to succumb to the family marriage, then married the one she liked.
Arman and Sean once fought each other for Meghan and they were bloody. Meghan had no doubt that as long as she hooked her finger at one of them, that person would rush to kneel down at her feet.
Just when Meghan wanted to choose one of them to marry, Shirley's intrusion changed everything.
That was it.
Meghan took out her mobile phone, looked at the date and booked a flight to San Francisco three days later.
Three days were enough for her to handle all the matters in Las Vegas.
Everything was over. From that moment on, she would no longer have anything to do with those three people.
