Aria’s world shatters the night she learns the truth—her heart is literally dying. Dilated cardiomyopathy. Terminal. One hundred days left to live. But even as her body fails her, her husband Damien’s heart beats only for another woman. At their anniversary gala, he laughs with his mistress under the glittering lights, unaware that the wife he’s betrayed is counting down her final days. Determined to leave more than pain behind, Aria begins her silent war—rewriting her will, reclaiming her dignity, and uncovering the secrets Damien would kill to protect. Yet the closer death approaches, the more fate twists cruelly: the man who destroyed her may be the only one capable of saving her life.

Chapter 1 of Dying for His Love

The crystal chandelier cast fractured light across the marble floor of the Blackwood estate's grand ballroom, each shard reflecting the glittering gowns and diamond necklaces of Manhattan's elite. I stood beside the towering champagne fountain, my fingers trembling as they clutched the manila envelope that had arrived just hours before the gala.

The medical report inside felt heavier than lead.

*Dilated cardiomyopathy, end-stage. Estimated survival time: 100 days.*

One hundred days. The number burned behind my eyes as I watched my husband of three years move through the crowd like a predator among sheep, his dark suit perfectly tailored, his smile devastatingly charming—for everyone except me.

Damien Blackwood commanded attention without effort. At thirty-two, he possessed the kind of ruthless magnetism that built empires and destroyed competitors. Tonight, he was in his element, discussing merger deals with oil executives while socialite daughters hung on his every word.

He hadn't looked at me once since we'd arrived.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Damien's voice cut through the ambient chatter as he stepped onto the small stage beside the orchestra. The room fell silent, two hundred pairs of eyes turning toward him with the reverence reserved for kings. "Thank you for joining us tonight for the Blackwood Foundation's annual charity gala."

I pressed the envelope against my chest, feeling my damaged heart struggle against my ribs.

"Before we begin the auction, I'd like to introduce some special guests." His gaze swept the crowd, landing briefly on me before moving on as if I were part of the furniture. "Senator Morrison and his lovely wife Catherine, who've donated generously to our children's hospital wing."

Applause rippled through the room.

"And of course," Damien continued, his tone shifting to something cooler, more detached, "my wife, Aria. She's... well, she's here in a supportive capacity. This is Aria, my... wife in name."

The words hit me like a physical blow. Around me, I felt the shift in the room's energy—the subtle turning of heads, the barely concealed whispers behind jeweled hands.

"Poor thing," I heard Mrs. Pemberton murmur to her companion. "The Winterbourne heiress, reduced to being a trophy wife for a man who doesn't even pretend to love her."

"Such a shame," came the reply. "She was brilliant once, wasn't she? MIT's youngest tenured professor in architecture. Now look at her—standing there like a ghost."

I lifted my chin higher, my training in aristocratic composure serving me well even as humiliation burned through my veins. The envelope crinkled in my grip.

One hundred days.

Damien stepped down from the stage, immediately surrounded by admirers and business associates. I watched him laugh at something Senator Morrison said, his hand resting casually on the small of some blonde socialite's back—the same gesture he'd once used with me, back when I still believed our marriage might become real.

That's when I saw her approaching.

Elise Moreau glided through the crowd like a wraith in pale pink silk, her delicate features arranged in an expression of practiced fragility. At twenty-five, she possessed the kind of ethereal beauty that made men want to protect her—all porcelain skin and wide, vulnerable eyes that never quite met yours directly.

She was also the reason my husband would never love me.

"Aria," Elise said, her voice barely above a whisper as she reached my side. But her words were pitched perfectly to carry to the nearby guests. "You look... tired tonight."

I turned to face her, noting how she positioned herself so that Damien would see us together. "Hello, Elise. How are you feeling?"

"Oh, you know." She pressed a delicate hand to her chest, where I knew her own damaged heart struggled to keep her alive. "Some days are harder than others. But I have such wonderful news."

She glanced around, ensuring she had an audience, then linked her arm through mine with surprising strength. "Damien promised to accompany me to Switzerland next month for my treatment. Isn't that wonderful? He's arranged for the best cardiac specialists in the world."

The nearby conversations quieted as guests strained to listen.

"The facilities there are supposed to be miraculous," Elise continued, her voice growing stronger with each word. "Damien says he won't let anything happen to me. He's been so protective ever since... well, since Vivian."

Vivian. Damien's first love, Elise's older sister, dead for five years now. The ghost that haunted our marriage more effectively than any living rival could.

"How thoughtful of him," I managed, my voice steady despite the acid churning in my stomach.

Elise's grip on my arm tightened. "He's like a brother to me, you understand. Family. Some bonds are just... unbreakable."

The implication hung in the air like poison. Around us, I felt the weight of pitying stares, heard the rustle of expensive fabric as women leaned closer to catch every word.

"Well," I said, gently extracting my arm from her grasp, "I hope the treatment goes well."

Elise's smile was radiant, triumphant. "Thank you, Aria. You're so understanding. Most wives would be jealous, but you... you know your place, don't you?"

The envelope in my hand seemed to pulse with its own heartbeat.

One hundred days.

I excused myself and slipped away from the ballroom, my heels clicking against the marble as I made my way toward Damien's study. I needed a moment to breathe, to process what I'd just endured. But as I approached the heavy oak door, I heard voices from within.

"—rejection is getting worse," a man was saying. Dr. Harrison, the family physician. "We need to find a donor soon, or..."

"What about compatibility?" Damien's voice, cold and clinical.

"Elise's blood type is rare, but there are potential matches. The real challenge is finding someone willing to—"

"What about Aria?"

My blood turned to ice.

"Your wife?" Dr. Harrison sounded surprised. "Well, yes, actually. Her medical records show she'd be a perfect match. Perfect tissue compatibility, healthy heart... but Mr. Blackwood, she'd have to consent to—"

Damien's laugh was sharp, humorless. "The contract marriage expires in three months. I'll offer her a generous settlement—enough money to disappear quietly. She'll agree."

"But sir, you're talking about her life—"

"She's served her purpose," Damien said dismissively. "Three years of playing the dutiful wife, maintaining appearances. Now she can do something actually useful."

The envelope slipped from my numb fingers, falling silently to the Persian rug.

One hundred days.

I stood there in the hallway, listening to my husband casually discuss harvesting my heart like I was livestock, and something inside me crystallized. Not broke—crystallized. Hardened into something sharp and unbreakable.

I bent to retrieve the envelope, my movements precise and controlled. Then I walked calmly to the nearest bathroom, locked the door, and methodically tore the medical report into tiny pieces, watching them flutter into the marble sink like snow.

When I looked up at my reflection, the woman staring back at me was someone I barely recognized. Gone was the hopeful, patient wife who'd spent three years dimming her own light for a man who saw her as spare parts.

In her place stood Aria Winterbourne—MIT's youngest tenured professor, heir to a fortune that dwarfed the Blackwood empire, and a woman with nothing left to lose.

One hundred days.

I smiled at my reflection, and for the first time in three years, it reached my eyes.

"Let the games begin," I whispered.

My Husband Swapped Our Baby with His Mistress’s Son
My Husband Swapped Our Baby with His Mistress’s Son
The steering wheel slicked under my palms, my knuckles white ridges against the leather. Rain lashed the windshield of my sedan, blurring the Manhattan skyline into a smear of weeping gray. I checked the dashboard clock again. 2:14 PM. Collin’s prep began at 2:30. My son needed a piece of my liver to survive, and I would tear this city apart with my bare hands to get to him. In the rearview mirror, a black SUV loomed, its grille a steel maw swallowing the distance between us. I changed lanes. It followed. Another flanked me on the right, boxing me in against the concrete divider of the FDR Drive.

The scent of antiseptic and herbs filled the air as I guided my mother's wheelchair into Lilith's treatment room. Hope fluttered in my chest—maybe this new healer could ease the chronic pain that had plagued my mother since the accident that left her paralyzed. "Thank you for coming," Lilith said, her voice dripping with false sweetness as she gestured toward the examination table. "I've been studying your mother's case. I believe my traditional methods might help where others have failed." My mother smiled weakly, her once-vibrant face now hollow with pain. "Anything that might help, dear. The pack doctor said there's little they can do." "I need to fetch some water," Lilith said, turning to me. "Would you mind? It's just down the hall." "Of course," I replied, squeezing my mother's hand before leaving them alone. The hallway seemed longer than usual.
