I Ditched My Cheating Fiancé And Married His Ruthless Billionaire Uncle

"Sign right there," Silas said.

He held out a heavy fountain pen. The black metal felt like ice against my freezing skin.

Inside the municipal registrar’s back office, the neon overhead lights buzzed like hornets. It was two in the morning. An elderly clerk in wire-rimmed glasses stamped three duplicate forms without looking at either of us. Silas had paid enough to buy silence and speed.

"Are you hesitating?" Silas asked, his voice low beside my ear.

"I am reading the clauses," I replied.

"Clause seven protects your father’s shipping lines," he said. "Clause nine transfers Kai’s voting proxy back to the executive board. You get your family’s survival. I get Kai off my neck."

I uncapped the pen. "And we divorce when his shares are liquidated?"

"Precisely."

My hand was steady as I wrote *Lira Caldwell* across the bottom line.

The clerk pressed the final red seal onto the certificate, slid the gold-embossed folder into Silas's hands, and gave a brief nod.

"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Vandermeer," the clerk muttered.

The title sounded ridiculous. Twelve hours ago, I was supposed to marry a boy who wanted to rob my father. Now I belonged to his uncle.

"Let's go," Silas said, taking my elbow to guide me toward the waiting car. "The broadcast starts at noon. We let Kai dig his own grave first."

At 12:15 PM, the live broadcast reached peak viewership.

I sat on a leather sofa in the private lounge of Silas’s downtown tower, staring at the television mounted on the opposite wall.

On screen, Kai stood before the chapel’s floral arch. His bow tie hung slightly loose around his neck. He held a microphone with trembling fingers, facing twenty rows of stunned socialites and flashing camera lights.

"I don't know where she is," Kai said, his voice cracking with rehearsed heartbreak. A tear caught the glare of the flashbulbs. "I gave Lira everything. My name, my loyalty, my entire life. If she had doubts, she only needed to tell me."

Reporters surged against the velvet ropes.

"Did Miss Caldwell leave the city?" one yelled.

"Was there another man?" shouted another.

"I won't blame her," Kai choked out, pressing a hand over his eyes while his mother rushed up to hug him. "I just hope she's safe. Even if she destroyed our families today... I will always love her."

"He deserves an Oscar," I said coldly.

Beside me, Silas didn't glance up from his tablet. "Press the release."

His assistant, standing by the doorway, tapped a single key on his phone. "Sent, sir."

It took thirty seconds.

On the live broadcast, a reporter in the front row gasped, staring down at her phone. Then another. Within moments, the entire cathedral floor erupted into shouts.

"Mr. Vandermeer!" a journalist screamed, lunging toward Kai. "The city records office just confirmed your uncle Silas married Lira Caldwell three hours ago!"

Kai froze.

The fake tears vanished from his face. His jaw went slack.

"What?" Kai whispered into the live microphone.

"Is it true Miss Caldwell eloped with your uncle?"

Kai grabbed the reporter’s lapel through the ropes. "What the fuck did you just say?"

The audio abruptly cut to static as the studio scrambled to kill the feed.

Ten minutes later, the internet caught fire.

I scrolled through my phone, watching the trending tags climb like a thermometer in hell.

*#RunawayBride* was number one.

*#SilasVandermeer* was number two.

*#CaldwellGoldDigger* sat at number three.

I opened the comments under the city gazette’s breaking headline.

*‘She ditched the nephew for the billionaire uncle? What a calculating bitch.’*

*‘Look at the timeline. She had Silas lined up the whole time. Poor Kai got played.’*

*‘Classic gold digger. Why settle for the heir when you can sleep with the king?’*

*‘Her father’s business was crashing. She sold herself to the highest bidder.’*

"Stop reading that garbage," Silas said, stepping into the room.

He took the phone from my hand and tossed it onto the glass coffee table.

"They think I planned this," I said, leaning back against the cushions. "They think I seduced you behind his back."

"Let them think whatever keeps them talking," Silas said smoothly. "Public scandal is temporary. Balance sheets are permanent."

"Did Kai call?"

A faint smirk touched Silas's lips. "His private bankers did. The second our marriage certificate was uploaded to the registry, Kai lost access to the Caldwell asset pool. The loan syndicate pulled his credit line. His hostile takeover of my European division is dead."

"So he lost everything."

"He lost three hundred million dollars by lunch," Silas corrected. "And his pride. Which hurts a boy like him far worse."

The car was brought around twenty minutes later. We drove through the private back gates of the Vandermeer estate on the north bluff.

The house was massive, constructed from pale limestone and tinted glass, overlooking the gray line of the ocean below. It felt less like a home and more like a fortress.

Silas carried my duffel inside and handed it to a butler standing in the marble foyer.

"Mrs. Vandermeer will take the east wing," Silas instructed.

I looked at him. "The east wing?"

"You didn't think we were sharing a bed, did you?" he asked, unbuttoning his coat.

"I didn't know what to expect," I answered honestly.

Silas turned to face me. His gray eyes were stripped of all warmth, analytical and sharp.

"Let us establish our terms, Lira," he said, stepping closer. "In front of cameras, investors, and family dinners, you are my devoted wife. You hold my arm, you laugh at my jokes, and you look at me like no other man exists."

"And when the doors close?"

"When the doors close, you stay on your side of the house," he replied flatly. "I do not interfere with your personal life, and you do not question mine. We do not touch. We do not cross into each other's spaces. This is a balance sheet, not a romance."

"Understood," I said, tilting my chin. "I don't want your bed, Silas. I want my father safe."

"Then we have an accord."

He turned on his heel toward his study down the west hall.

I climbed the sweeping marble staircase toward the east wing. The guest master suite was enormous, decorated in muted grays and crisp linen, but it felt hollow. Cold air seeped through the balcony doors.

I sat on the edge of the mattress, digging my fingernails into my palms.

*It’s just a transaction,* I told myself. *A business deal to protect my father. Nothing more.*

Downstairs, a violent thud rattled the heavy front doors.

Then came the furious blare of a car horn from the main driveway.

I stood up, walking quickly to the second-floor window that faced the courtyard gates.

A red sports coupe was rammed crookedly against the reinforced iron bars outside the perimeter. The front bumper was crumpled against the steel.

Kai threw his car door open, stumbling out onto the pavement.

His tuxedo jacket was gone. His white shirt was torn open at the collar, his hair wild, his face flushed with unbridled fury.

Two armed estate guards stepped forward, raising their hands to block him, but Kai shoved past them toward the gate intercom.

"Lira!" Kai’s voice roared through the security speaker mounted near the roof, echoing through the empty courtyard. "Lira, get out here right now! You think you can fuck with me like this? Come out and face me, you lying whore!"
