Susan Quinn was scornful.
"Don't be so harsh! What do you mean by your money? Isn't it all earned by Jason?"
"I'm just cutting out the middleman and repaying him directly. What's wrong with that?"
Jason Cole, unconcerned, kissed Susan Quinn right in front of us.
"Our Susan is so smart!"
"Get out of here! The guests I invited today all hate your Gardner family!"
"Everyone heard about the Gardner family's downfall and wanted to set off firecrackers for three days straight!"
My dad said nothing, looking at Jason Cole coldly.
Jason Cole stretched nonchalantly.
He used to be the most polite person around my dad, but now he wants to shit on my dad's neck!
My dad was furious. He'd seen the fickleness of human nature, but he felt bad that his daughter's sincerity had been trampled upon.
"Jason Cole, my daughter loves you so much, and you treat her like this. Are you still human?"
Jason Cole retorted.
"Human? Do you, the Gardner family, treat me like a human?"
"How have we, the Gardner family, wronged you?"
Jason Cole said righteously.
"You're the highest-ranking official in New York City, after all. My second uncle can't even be the boss of a sanitation worker!"
"You act so high and mighty every day, but in the end, you get fired for getting in trouble!"
My dad took two steps back in anger and rolled his eyes at me.
"Look at what a piece of crap you've found!"
I quickly tried to appease him.
"It's not too late to see clearly now. We'll go get the divorce certificate tomorrow!"
After hearing this, Susan Quinn deliberately flirted with Jason Cole, inadvertently revealing the milky-white jade bracelet on her wrist.
My face paled, and my heart sank. I pointed at the bracelet and questioned Jason Cole.
"Jason Cole, you must know how much this bracelet means to me. How could it be in the possession of this bitch?"
The bracelet was a family heirloom from my grandmother, the daughter of a wealthy family.
It's said to be from the early-18th-century imperial era and priceless. It's the only thing my mother left me.
When I got married, my father gave the bracelet as my dowry and married me to Jason Cole along with me.
I usually keep it locked in the safe and wouldn't even touch it.
Only Jason Cole and I know the combination to the family safe, and yet he gave it to Susan Quinn!
I frowned and held out my hand.
"Susan Quinn, give me back the bracelet!"
Seeing how much I cherished it, Susan Quinn deliberately and slowly slipped it off her hand. She said coquettishly to Jason Cole,
"Jason, you're so mean! How could you give me something that someone else has used?"
"What a broken thing! I don't want it!"
With that, she slammed the bracelet to the ground, shattering it into pieces beyond repair.
I screamed, "Susan Quinn! Why are you messing with something?"
Jason Cole hugged her and said,
"Okay, I'll do as you say! Our Susan is precious. We wouldn't even consider giving her something that could kill her!"
I was so angry that my blood boiled. I just wanted to rush over and tear these two bitches apart. My dad immediately stopped me, patting my hand in a soothing gesture. He looked at Jason Cole coldly.
"Jason Cole, what's going on between you and this woman?"
Jason Cole hugged Susan Quinn, his gesture frivolous.
"Jonathan Gardner, I filed for divorce from your daughter this morning."
"Besides, even if I didn't divorce, finding another girlfriend wouldn't be illegal, right?"
"But you, how could you be fired for no reason?"
"You must have made a mistake! You're not going to jail, are you?"
