Bleeding to Death, I married the Enemy of my Mafia Husband

For a second, the entire world seemed to stop spinning.

Ralph completely froze. The smug, untouchable Don of the Syndicate vanished in the blink of an eye, replaced by a man whose fragile, narcissistic ego had just been struck with a sledgehammer.

His fingers dug into my bare arm, the grip instantly turning bruising.

"What did you say?" he hissed. His voice was no longer a mocking drawl; it was a lethal, shaking whisper that barely contained the violence boiling underneath. "Who? Who were you with, Entice?"

Kate noticed the shift immediately. The calm, collected mafia boss was suddenly unhinged, spiraling over the ex-wife he claimed to despise. Panic flashed in her wide eyes.

This wasn't part of her plan. Ralph was supposed to humiliate me, not obsess over me.

"Ralph!" Kate whined, stepping forward and tugging frantically at his tailored tuxedo sleeve. "Stop it! She's just lying for attention. She's crazy, remember? Don't let her get to you, please, everyone is staring—"

"Back off, Kate!" Ralph snarled, violently shrugging his arm to throw her hand off him.

Kate stumbled backward, her mouth falling open in sheer shock. Ralph didn't even glance at his pregnant wife.

"Give me a name," Ralph demanded, stepping so close I could feel the heat radiating off his chest. "Who touched what was mine?"

Staring into his furious, desperate eyes, I didn't feel an ounce of fear. Instead, looking at his face pulled me violently into the past.

There was a time when I would have done anything to keep the anger out of those eyes. I used to love this man with a blinding, pathetic devotion. I remembered our first year of marriage. I remembered the nights he would pull me into his lap in his dark study, burying his face in my neck, inhaling my scent like I was his only lifeline.

“You are the only light in my dark world, Entice,” he had whispered against my skin, his large hands gently cradling my face. “You’re the Queen of the Syndicate. No one will ever touch you. I will burn the world down before I let anyone hurt you. You are mine. Forever.”

I had believed every single word. I had worshipped the ground he walked on, thinking I was the exception to the monster. I thought my love had tamed the ruthless Don.

But it was all a lie. A beautiful, intoxicating lie designed to keep a debt-sold girl compliant.

The memory of his false promises morphed into the agonizing reality of the night I finally left the hospital. Three years ago.

I had been bleeding, broken, and completely hollowed out. I had just signed the divorce papers, leaving behind my home, my money, and the ghost of the baby he didn't care enough to save. I had wandered out of the hospital doors and into a freezing, torrential downpour.

I was ready to just lay down on the wet pavement and let the cold take me. I wanted to die.

Then, the Maybach had pulled up.

It was sleek, pitch-black, and heavily armored. The heavy door swung open, and a man stepped out into the storm under a large black umbrella.

He wasn't just anyone. He was a myth in the underworld. A rival Don, infinitely more ruthless, dangerous, and powerful than Ralph could ever hope to be.

He was the one man the Syndicate actually feared. The phantom who ruled the shadows.

He hadn't looked at me with pity as I shivered in the mud. He looked at me with cold, sharp calculation. He saw an opportunity.

"You have nothing left," his deep, gravelly voice had rumbled over the sound of the crashing rain. He extended a gloved hand toward me. "Come with me. I will give you a new name, a fortress, and the power to crush the men who broke you. In exchange, you belong to my family. Your absolute loyalty is mine."

I had looked at my bruised, empty hands, and then up at the man who was Ralph's greatest nightmare.

When I reached out and took his hand in the freezing rain, I didn't just accept a ride. I defected. I officially betrayed the Syndicate and severed Ralph’s control over me forever. I gave my soul, my loyalty, and my life to his biggest rival.

That was my "cheating." And it was the best decision I had ever made.

The memory faded, bringing me back to the blinding chandelier lights of the banquet hall and the furious face of my ex-husband.

Ralph’s chest was heaving. He gave my arm another vicious shake. "Tell me his name, Entice! I swear to God, I will hunt him down and peel the skin from his bones!"

He raised his free hand and snapped his fingers.

Instantly, four massive, armed Syndicate guards stepped out from the shadows of the banquet hall.

"You aren't leaving this room," Ralph threatened, his voice dropping to a deadly register. "Not until you tell me who you spread your legs for."

"You don't own me anymore, Ralph," I said, my voice eerily calm, carrying clearly through the terrified silence of the hall. "And if you don't take your hands off me right now, my husband is going to kill you."

Ralph let out a dark, barking laugh. "Your husband? You think some pathetic civilian can protect you from me? I am the Don of the Syndicate! I'll kill him right in front of you, and then I'll drag you back to where you belong!"
