After My Husband Used My Womb for His Affair Baby

Dr. Vance signed my discharge papers the next morning.

He told me to take it easy. He told me to avoid stress for the baby’s sake. I smiled politely, nodded, and walked out the front doors.

I didn't go back to the penthouse. I didn't call Esteban.

Instead, I drove straight to the fertility clinic on East 68th Street. I walked up to the reception desk and asked for my complete file. I wanted every lab report, every nurse log, and the internal security footage from the morning of my last embryo transfer.

The clinic manager hesitated. His collar looked too tight. "Mrs. Carroll, internal footage is confidential—"

"There was an audit red flag on batch storage last month," I lied smoothly. My voice was completely flat. "Give me the footage now, or my attorney will have a subpoena here by noon. Carroll Enterprises doesn't tolerate procedural errors."

The name worked. It always did. Ten minutes later, I walked out with a small black flash drive tucked inside my coat pocket.

I drove to Freya’s apartment in SoHo.

It was raining harder now. Freya plugged the drive into her laptop on the kitchen counter. We pulled up two wooden stools and leaned in close. Marcus Webb’s phone logs lay beside the keyboard.

The video opened. The camera angle was high and grainy. It looked down into the cryo-storage lab.

The timestamp in the corner read: *September 12, 6:14 AM.*

It was forty minutes before my scheduled transfer. The lab technician had stepped out to prep the operating room. The hallway was empty.

Then, the door clicked open.

A woman walked in. She wore a long gray coat and flat shoes. She didn't hurry. She didn't look over her shoulder.

It was Araya.

She held a phone to her ear. She was talking, nodding her head slowly.

Freya’s finger tapped Marcus’s phone records. Right there on the printed page was an outbound call from Esteban’s private cell to Araya. Timestamp: 6:13 AM. Duration: four minutes and twelve seconds.

He was on the line with her. He was guiding her.

On the screen, Araya walked directly to the third cryo-tank. She pulled a small key from her pocket, unlocked the latch, and lifted the metal rack. She took out a tiny glass vial labeled with my name. She set it on the metal tray.

Then, she reached into her coat pocket. She pulled out a second vial.

With calm, practiced fingers, she peeled the labels. She stuck my name onto the new vial. She slipped my real embryo into her pocket, slid the switched vial into the tray, and closed the tank.

She turned toward the door, hung up the phone, and walked out.

The screen went black.

The kitchen was dead quiet. The only sound was the rain hitting the window pane.

The baby inside me was not mine.

Five rounds of IVF. Hundreds of needles bruised across my stomach and thighs. Years of vomiting, crying on bathroom floors, praying to God for just one chance to be a mother.

None of it mattered.

The child growing inside my body belonged to Esteban and Araya.

They had stolen my womb. They had turned me into an incubator for their dirty secret.

My mind flashed back to our eight-week ultrasound. Esteban had stood beside my bed, holding my hand so tightly his knuckles turned white. He had looked at the tiny pulsing dot on the screen with tears in his eyes.

*“Look at our miracle, Hadley,”* he had whispered. *“We finally did it.”*

He knew. Every single second, he knew. He had looked into my eyes and lied with a smile.

I didn't scream. I didn't cry.

Something inside me simply went dark. It felt like a skyscraper losing power in a blackout, shutting down floor by floor. The love died first. Then the trust. Then the ten years of devotion I had poured into a hollow man.

All of it, gone. Only cold, hard ash remained.

"Hadley?" Freya’s voice trembled. She reached for my hand. "Hadley, breathe. Please."

"I'm fine," I said. My voice sounded hollow. Like an echo from the bottom of a dry well.

That night, the pain started.

It woke me at two in the morning on Freya’s guest bed. It was a sharp, tearing cramp low in my belly. I sat up, gasping for air.

I swung my legs over the edge and stood up. A sudden warmth rushed down the inside of my thighs.

I looked down. Dark red blood soaked through my gray sweatpants, pooling onto the hardwood floor.

"Freya!" I gasped.

I stumbled into the bathroom and collapsed against the cold porcelain of the tub. Blood was everywhere. My vision blurred at the edges.

The bathroom door flew open. Freya took one look at the floor and turned pale as paper. "Oh God. Oh God, Hadley!"

She grabbed a towel, pressed it between my legs, and dialed 911 with shaking fingers.

The sirens wailed through the rainy streets. Paramedics lifted me onto a stretcher. The ceiling lights of the hospital hallway blurred into long white streaks above my head.

Lenox Hill again. The emergency ward.

A female doctor with tired eyes pressed a portable ultrasound probe against my lower stomach.

"You're hemorrhaging, Mrs. Carroll," she said quickly. "The placenta is partially detaching. We can administer heavy doses of progesterone and emergency clotting agents to try and stabilize it. But there are risks. Or we can perform a D and C right now."

She looked at me. "Do we fight to save the pregnancy?"

The fetal monitor beeped softly in the background. That same mechanical pulse. *Thump-thump. Thump-thump.*

Araya’s child. Esteban’s child.

My body shook with violent chills. Sweat soaked my hair.

I reached out and grabbed Freya’s hand. I squeezed her fingers until my knuckles turned white, anchoring myself to the only real thing left in my world.

I looked the doctor right in the eye.

"No," I said. My voice didn't waver. "Take it out."
