My heart was pounding with excitement, my hand gripping the bottle of Aconitum potion tightly — my last remaining hope of escaping this place.
“What about my mother?” I asked, full of hope.
“Your mother… forgive me, I haven’t been able to find the hospital where your mother is being treated.”
I fell silent; my heart sank.
At first, my mother was treated at the pack hospital because it was free, a facility provided by the pack.
However, since I accepted myself as a breeder, Madam Freya had transferred my mother to the best private hospital in the city center for treatment.
However, she didn't tell me where my mother had been transferred to and didn't allow me to leave the pack, worried that it would interfere with my pregnancy.
“I understand,” I said. “I'll find a way to discover where Madam Freya transferred my mother. Logan must know which hospital my mother is being treated at.”
“Who are you talking to?!” The booming baritone voice startled me, causing my phone to slip from my grasp and fall to the floor. My eyes widened as I stared at Logan, who had been in my room for who knows how long.
He stood with a dark and suspicious expression. “Who are you calling? Is it a man?!”
"No, just a friend. I asked him if he could check on my mother at the hospital," I'm trying to stay.
Secretly, my hand moved to hide the bottle of Aconitum potion in my pants pocket.
Logan looked skeptical. He picked up my phone from the floor, but unfortunately, the screen was already dark.
“Tell me the truth, are you calling another man behind my back?!” His voice was filled with anger, but there was a hint of jealousy in it.
I stared at him for a long time, trying to remember how Olivia always managed to win Logan's heart.
“I really haven't been contacting any other men, Logan. After watching me all this time, can't you trust me even a little?” My voice was very soft, and I deliberately made my eyes water in front of him to get his sympathy.
“I was just calling a friend to ask how my mother was doing.”
This was my chance! I had to ask Logan where the hospital was where my mother was being treated.
I grabbed his hand. “Logan, it's been a long time since I've seen my mother. I really want to see her.”
The anger on Logan's face faded; he sighed and sat down next to me.
“If you want to see your mother, you just have to tell me. Don't contact someone behind my back, even if it's a friend.”
“Yes, I will always tell you every time I miss my mother. So can you take me to see my mother?” I made my face look pitiful.
Logan looked at me for a moment, then said, “Alright. I'll take you to visit your mother tomorrow.”
I smiled sweetly at him, “Thank you, Logan.”
Logan was stunned for a moment, his gaze intense as he looked at my face.
“It's been a long time since I've seen you smile like this,” he said with an unreadable look, reaching out to brush my lips, but pulling his hand back.
“Do you like the gifts I gave you?” He stared at the gifts lying on my bed.
“I like them. They're very beautiful,” I smiled to please him so I could carry out my plan to see my mother.
“Then why haven't you opened them?”
“Ah, I'm about to open them.” I picked up one of the gift boxes at random.
Suddenly, Logan grabbed my wrist.
“What's wrong with your hand?” Logan frowned when he saw my hand trembling slightly.
I gave him a cold glance for a moment, but still replied with a forced smile.
“My hands have been shaking a lot lately. The pain from my previous miscarriage has also been coming back more often since I drank the new potion you gave me.”
“Maybe it's a side effect. It will go away after a few days. The potion is from a high-level witch. It's very expensive, so you have to appreciate it. I'll ask the servant to make you another one.”
I just stared at him blankly.
“Okay.”
If I refused, Logan would pour it down my throat himself.
So, when the maid brought the potion, I pretended to drink it in front of Logan.
After he left, I flushed the poisonous potion down the toilet.
Logan kept his promise; he would take me tomorrow after the hunt with the pack's guests.
I felt restless, waiting for Logan to take me to see my mother after so long.
I calmed myself, walking around the packhouse while looking longingly towards the forest. From a distance, I could hear the low roar of the pack going on a hunt. Ah, how I missed being a wolf, running freely in the forest during the full moon.
However, for the past five years, Logan has always restricted me from going into the forest or forbidden me from exploring outside the pack's territory. If I unconsciously wandered off, there would always be a member of the pack who would catch me and force me back to the packhouse.
I really felt trapped here.
“Humph!”
My eyes widened in shock when a rough hand suddenly covered my mouth from behind, pulling me away. They then threw me into the cold pool.
