I turned my head, unwilling to acknowledge him, but he didn't hesitate to continue. "If you don't like it, I'll go downstairs and buy you a better bottle right now!"
He actually turned toward the door.
Chalotte quickly grabbed him. " it's your birthday today. Why are you being so submissive?"
"He can't even remember his own birthday, so why should we care about some outsider?" She turned to me, her eyes filled with disdain. Her voice was sharp: "Eathen is kindly offering you wine, and you reject it? Are you that ungrateful?"
"You're unworthy of such a gift, yet you still complain. Well, I'll make sure you never forget tonight!"
With that, she raised her glass and poured the wine on me.
I didn't even have time to react. Red wine splashed across my face, soaking my clothes, the sharp scent burning my eyes.
"Lucas, look how considerate Chalotte is, still treating you like a friend!" Eathen, showing no mercy, walked over, laughing as he poured more wine on me. One glass after another soaked my clothes, leaving me drenched.
A few days later, Eathen and Chalotte's extravagant wedding arrived. Luxury cars filled the city center, fireworks lit up the night sky. The grand hotel, the crystal chandeliers-it was a night of excess, a spectacle of wealth.
When I appeared as the wedding host, the crowd immediately turned their gaze on me, bewildered at my role.
"Isn't that Lucas? Why is he hosting the wedding?"
"Does he think there's still a chance to win her back? What a laughable joke!"
"Haha, he still dares to show up here. Just a pitiful lose!"
On stage, Eathen wore a smug smile. The couple exchanged rings, and the guests erupted in cheers.
"Go on, kiss! Kiss!" The crowd shouted, egging them on. In the frenzy, they embraced and kissed.
Then came the part where the bride was supposed to give a speech. But suddenly, Eathen walked toward me, a malicious smile on his face.
"Lucas, we've grown up together. I've always considered you my best brother."
"I truly want to see you find happiness. And I think it's time for us to become a real family."
I felt a dark premonition in my gut, but I stayed silent, waiting to see what trap he was setting.
"Chalotte has an older sister who's always had feelings for you. I hope you two can be together. Then we'll truly be a family."
At that moment, Chalotte brought a girl over-her steps unsteady, her eyes glazed, a sticky substance on her lips. She looked far from normal.
Eathen had sunk to a new low just to humiliate me.
Then, a sharp laugh echoed through the room.
"Lucas, don't you want to grab her hand and marry her?"
"Look at her, she's a perfect match for your 'kind'-both idiots, made for each other!"
The crowd jeered.
Olivia stood and shouted, her words laced with mockery.
"Lucas, haven't you always dreamed of climbing up the ladder? Here's your chance! Take her hand!"
