Chapter 1 of A Family Portrait Turns Us Into Murderer
Our daughter drew a family portrait, but Felix's adopted sister caught her. She had a depression attack on the spot and climbed onto the rooftop, threatening to jump off the building.
In a rage, Felix threw our daughter into a reform school for evil girls.
Our daughter cried until her voice was hoarse and I knelt on the ground and begged him not to send her to that kind of hellish place.
Felix gave a cold smile.
"If you make a mistake, you should accept your punishment. No wonder Brianna drew such a disgusting picture, which caused Zivanka to suffer from depression. It turns out you spoiled her too much!"
He insisted on throwing our daughter into the reform school and half a month later, news of her death came.
However, her father, Felix Pritchard, was busy lighting a sky lantern at the auction to buy the necklace his adopted sister loved.
I found a letter asking for help among Brianna’s belongings. I ran to question Felix, but he had just posted a message on his social media account.
[As long as Zivanka likes it, even if it's the moon in the sky, I will pick it for her.]
Later, the Pritchard Family came to the funeral and the old woman, Harrieth Pritchard, hugged me and comforted me with tears in her eyes.
I was completely heartbroken. I knelt down holding Brianna's ashes and apologized several times.
"Grandma, Brianna doesn't like sleeping here. Let me take her away from the Pritchards."
——
I had just heard the news of Brianna's death. I was so upset on the way here that I fell and got bruised all over.
In this moment, I had several holes in my clothes and blood from my wound kept flowing out.
Harrieth looked at me with a heart wrenching expression in her eyes.
"The world is unpredictable, who would have thought such a thing would happen? Dear, please get up."
My expression was hollow and numb and my tears had long dried up.
Harrieth could not help but sigh with teary eyes.
"What's going on here? How could Felix send such a good girl like Brianna to that damn place?"
I trembled and pulled out a drawing.
That was a family portrait our five-years-old daughter drawn, Brianna Pritchard.
The line figures were quite abstract, but it could still be seen at a glance.
Brianna and I were holding hands, while Felix was pressing his adopted sister, Zivanka Pritchard, under him.
The first moment I saw her drawing, my face turned pale.
But I did not expect, Zivanka had a depression attack on the spot and climbed onto the rooftop, threatening to jump off the building.
Felix slapped Brianna twice on the spot, rushed to the rooftop and held Zivanka in his arms with heartache.
"Zivanka, calm down, calm down, I will punish her!"
After going downstairs, Brianna cried until her voice was hoarse, but he did not intend to let her go.
With a look of disgust on his face, he made our daughter stand in the sun as punishment.
He even cursed her for being so vicious at such a young age.
Brianna did not know what she had done wrong and she knelt on the ground begging for mercy.
"Dad, I know I was wrong, please don't hit me!"
Unexpectedly, it only took half a day for him to contact a place called "Whittier Reform School".
On the same day, someone came to pick up Brianna.
I also knelt on the floor and begged him. "Brianna did nothing wrong, you can't do this."
Seeing me defending my daughter, Felix gave a cold smile.
"If you make a mistake, you should accept your punishment. No wonder Brianna drew such a disgusting picture, which caused Zivanka to suffer from depression. It turns out you spoiled her too much!"
"If it weren't for her dirty drawing, Zivanka would never have climbed up to the rooftop, fallen and got injured. It's all her own fault!"
"She's so shameless at such a young age. What will happen to her when she grow up? If she hook up with an educated and rich guy, wouln't it bring shame to our family?!"
I shook my head desperately. That was not the case.
Brianna did not lie and she was not as disgusting as he said.
Just because she saw a scene with her own eyes that day.
